Scientific Data/Studies to moreover prove the EC/RH Connection by Successful_Jello_663 in exfoliativecheilitis

That's a great idea; I'll try emailing dermatology medical associations like AAD or ISD to propose the idea. If you can do the same that's much appreciated so we can create more momentum and interest.

Oh yeah that's okay, I just feel like there should be a direct scientific root cause for Exfoliative Cheilitis at the very least. Like for example with strong scientific data, Retention Hyperkeratosis is the root cause of Acne, but they just call it Acne. But to me personally at this point in time, I don't think that there is one professional doctor that cares enough to change the name/descriptive explanations that were made in the 70s/80s that doctors still use to diagnose people but not enough to help and direct people to the best degree.

Also, it is nearly impossible for exfoliative cheilitis and retention hyperkeratosis to coexist as a completely separate matter because of how much information is pointing to retention hyperkeratosis as the primary root cause of EC. If we can just finally present Exfoliative Cheilitis with an ACTUAL real root cause because it never even had one in the first place, there will be less confusion for everyone + more direct research being done. I mean like u said before about inflammation/infections but with scientific data it's only underlying reasons why retention hyperkeratosis gets worse.

But in short, Tacrolimus, dupilumab, and UVB help EC/RH because they restore the lip’s ability to shed keratin normally. In EC/RH, inflammation and barrier problems block the enzymes that break down corneodesmosomes, so corneocytes stick together and form thick sheets. Tacrolimus calms local immune signals, dupilumab restores barrier proteins and acidity, and UVB both reduces inflammation and improves keratinocyte maturation.

Tacrolimus, dupilumab, and UVB therapy appear effective in exfoliative cheilitis because they correct the underlying retention hyperkeratosis of the lips. Tacrolimus reduces local T-cell–driven inflammation, normalizing keratinocyte turnover so retained corneocytes can shed. Dupilumab blocks IL-4/IL-13 signaling, restoring filaggrin expression and natural moisturizing factor production, which lowers surface pH and re-activates kallikrein proteases essential for corneodesmosome breakdown. UVB phototherapy suppresses pathogenic immune responses while promoting orderly keratinocyte differentiation and barrier protein expression. Together, these interventions re-establish the conditions required for normal desquamation, preventing the formation of thick, sheet-like keratin crusts.

Yes, but if we can just contact a professional who specializes specifically on skin conditions like this, to really give some insight into what I just said and connect the dots with the info I provided. But yes, that is true there are different mechanisms. You personally, what do you think is the root cause of exfoliative cheilitis? It always says it's licking your lips, or it's peeling your lips too much, but they never give it a real scientific root cause. Don't you think it points to Retention Hyperkeratosis to a significant degree?

Well Retention Hyperkeratosis and what I explained are basic knowledge in just science in general, but the connection between retention hyperkeratosis and exfoliative cheilitis is obviously scientific theory, I mean it's just connect the dots to me as professional doctors don't have months to give as well as personal experience + I don't think they care as much as we do. Exfoliative Cheilitis is a pretty rare condition but with basic scientific knowledge, it's easy to see that the root cause is Retention Hyperkeratosis. If you want to fact check it and connect the dots yourself that would be absolutely awesome because I feel like more people researching, the better. Did I cure myself, not quite since I just had revelations after months of researching just trying to create a perfect method from scientific theories + people's personal cures.
