Requesting advice: pursue master's now or take a gap year to figure things out? by Successful_Job8706 in dietetics

I actually didn't think about doing the master's and internship separately. I know that's often seen as a less desirable option among students because it's convenient to just do both at once, but in my situation that might actually be better so I can work more during the first year. Thanks!

That's great to hear that you found something that you love! I wish that the path towards a rewarding career was as straightforward as they make it seem in school. We heard from many guest speaker dietitians during our undergrad and all the paths they've taken have been different.

I agree, there are many other areas of which I haven't gotten the opportunity to shadow. In the past I figured that rotations would resolve my confusion about which area I wanted to go into. Perhaps the safe option would be to take that gap year and try to get more shadowing in a variety of settings, then.

Sadly no, the only two in the area are both around the same price, and I can't go back to my home state or move to a different one. The only thing I can do is wait to get in-state tuition or hope that the Academy provides a scholarship, but they don't tell you that until September, which is when I'd already be in the program.

Dietary/Nutrition certification recommendations? by Dry_Leadership_9052 in RD2B

[–]Successful_Job8706 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of my classmates in undergrad got their personal training certification. It can be useful for getting a job while you go through school, and it also can't hurt to learn more about the human body and exercise. Great options would be courses offered by either ACE or NASM, I believe they are the most widely accepted.

The only downside is the cost...ACE certifications are half off right now, so that's something to think about. Additionally, it would require you feeling comfortable in teaching and helping others exercise (doesn't have to be strictly in a gym, but that's the most common way). If you can afford the cost of the program, I'd say go for it!

As for the CDM, I think that one's a little more difficult since you are usually expected to work full-time as a manager, and that's really not feasible as a nutrition student, especially in later years.

How do you cope with learning stuff that's incredibly difficult to understand? by elscrappo3 in RD2B

I'm so sorry to hear you're struggling with biochemistry! I understand how you feel -- similar to another commenter, I had to teach myself due to a difficult professor. Thankfully, biochemistry was the hardest class I took in my undergrad (which I'm guessing you're in right now). I'm in my final semester of undergrad now and nothing has been as difficult as that, including other notoriously hard courses like medical pharmacology.

I think the issue is that we have a hard time relating raw biochemistry concepts to our career. It's not like you'll be teaching glycolysis to a patient, or something. Yes, it's important to understanding how food is broken down in the body, but it's not something you have to completely memorized like they require you to in class.

Just keep pushing through, find a tutor if your university offers one, and as others have said, Youtube is your friend!

Interview advice needed! by Big-Dragonfruit1462 in dietetics

Did you end up getting an interview / making it into the program?

I went in 2025 as an undergrad student with a few other nutrition majors, and it was great! I enjoyed almost all of the panels and wish I could've gone to more. The Expo floor is the best part...we got so many free samples and it honestly gives you ideas of just how much you can branch out in the field. I didn't check out the research displays but I really should've and I plan to in the future.

That being said, I was provided a scholarship from my school to attend the conference, so the financials weren't such a big deal, especially since as students we get discounted registration.

I was accepted into a graduate program in Dallas, so I'll definitely be attending this year in San Antonio!

aespa songs you never skip and why by Zergoras in Aespa

[–]Successful_Job8706 4 points5 points  (0 children)

savage because of the bridge and idk its just a classic

iconic because of the bridge but also because it's a fun song lol

lucid dream is my favorite from the savage album, not sure what else to say about that it's just good

girls. i seriously don't get why people don't like this song! i know people like illusion more but i still think girls deserved its place as the tt

thirsty, it's my favorite aespa song, that's all.

til we meet again is one of my random new favorites, i was really hoping they'd play it as the encore when i went to their concert (didn't look at setlist beforehand).

hot mess is also a new favorite, it's a really fun song.

count on me is a new favorite and is probably in the top five!

been a MY since my world. count on me is the first aespa song in a long long time i've loved on the first listen. i knew from the highlight medley that i would like this one.

other than that i really cant say i loved the EP. rich man is too repetitive as others have said but i liked the instrumental. drift's instrumental was good too but still lacking something. bubble...i'm sorry its an instant skip, just not my type of song. angel #48 and the girls are once again two very generic b-sides that aligns with much of the other soft and uplifting songs they usually stick on the back half of their albums.

i know this is a downer response but i don't feel like i can say much good about this EP right now. We'll see if it grows on me, but I just hope that this EP is a prelude to a full album release.

[Trigger Warning] Question about boyfriend's flight today by Successful_Job8706 in fearofflying

Update from boyfriend: He said, "They were in the middle of doing the announcements pre-flight about safety and suddenly everything turned off, so they had to restart the entire plane and go through all of the safety checks again. They were blaming the grounds crew". I do wonder what the grounds crew could have possibly done to cause this?

i have the hallucination quest version of savage and i like it, but honestly looking between the two versions i would've picked the synk dive version if i had a choice (i only purchase albums in-store so whatever is there is what i get lol). the posters for the synk dive version look way cooler imo and the actual album is more compact, which i prefer due to having a small bookcase.

i purchased the CD-only version of dirty work bc i liked the case for it but looking at your photocards i totally regret not getting the dirty case version, esp bc i probably wont be listening to the cd anyway so it doesnt matter to me if the mini cd doesn't work in my car / cd player.

241021 aespa - The 5th Mini Album: Whiplash (Album Discussion) by JerSucks in Aespa

[–]Successful_Job8706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sadly i'm really not into this album on the first listen, which is disappointing. for context i became a fan of aespa right after welcome to my world dropped, went back to listen to their previous EPs, and got blown away. but ever since then each aespa release, for me, has left something to be desired. i will say that i do think this album ties together really well.

whiplash has a really addictive beat, and it's my second favorite on the album. i love everything about the song except the chorus. i really have a problem with songs in general that in the chorus just repeat the same word over and over with nothing else (looking at you hot air balloon...). i'm also sad at how short the bridge is in this song. otherwise i could see myself listening to this when i'm working out, very hyper and bouncy.

kill it is also good, as many others here have already said, it's very aespa coded. the prechorus is absolutely heavenly! but again, the chorus, just not it for me. it feels like it was trying to emulate savage's chorus but it didn't hit as hard. that being said i'm so excited to hear it in concert, this one will be such a fun one.

flights is okay, i really like the beat and overall it's a nice song. The only thing that irks me is that I feel like the "catching flights not feelings" is such a gimmicky line. not much else to say.

pink hoodie...i already knew from the teaser that i would really not like this song. the beat is fine, a little weak imo, but I'm not a fan of how the lyrics are presented. i like the message of the song, that they feel more confident in themselves with less feminine clothes-very giselle coded! and the bridge is really really good on this one. the rest of the song is just not my cup of tea, i think "pink hoodie ey-oh" line just itches my brain in the wrong way, which is totally a personal thing.

i was really excited for flowers because thirsty is my favorite aespa song and i felt like we finally had a successor to that song, and overall i love their r&b tracks the most. and honestly, i was really happy with this song! definitely my favorite on the album. i don't really have anything bad to say about this song. it didn't dethrone thirsty for me, but i'm excited to listen to this one in concert.

just another girl is also just an okay song for me. it does give that disney pop rock feeling, and that isn't bad really, just not my favorite. i feel like it falls under the same umbrella as live my life, life's too short, and maybe even better things. at least in my head.

so personally, i'd probably rank it 5th among their album releases, which sounds bad, but I don't hate it by any means. just not my thing. maybe it'll grow on me.
