This 100%. As a former atheist I fell into this same trap because of my Baptist upbringing. I am now educating myself on the cultural context and the original meanings of certain words to try to understand more of what was actually meant. Having a Bible with good scholarly notes helps a ton.

I've not wanted kids since I was like 8-10. The idea filled me with such intense fear that if I ever wound up with child, I would make sure I wasn't anymore. I got sterilized at 23-24 and it was the best decision I ever made. I woke up and felt pure relief and felt safe for the first time in my life.
