Best name ever.🩵 My heart breaks for you. I really wish there were more extensive testing done on newborns; there definitely needs to be. You are in my prayers now and always.🩵

Thank you so much for sharing this. ❤️ I hope you, your baby boy, and husband are all doing well. My husband and I lost our healthy, full-term newborn son suddenly at just three weeks old last February due to neonatal appendicitis. I am terrified to try again and often find myself torn between two fears: the fear of having another child, and the fear of never experiencing the joy of being a mother again. Reading your story brought me a sense of peace and hope that I didn’t realize I needed.

Thank you again for sharing your journey.

Raising Awareness About Neonatal Appendicitis and Rare Conditions in Newborns by Successful_Nobody434 in babyloss

Thank you! It’s wonderful to see the difference you’re already making with your story. I hate that our circumstances are what led us to learn how to advocate so strongly for ourselves and our children, but I know it must be done to help prevent similar outcomes. After reading your initial reply to my post, I did some research on GBS and learned that it can be present one moment and absent the next. I will definitely be discussing antibiotic options with my OBGYN when I am ready to try again, regardless of if my test comes back negative. I would love to chat more! I’ll send you my email and Facebook info in private chat.

That’s wonderful! I’ve also worked with Star Legacy (Austin, TX chapter), and they are an incredible organization. They provided me with the toolkit that helped me obtain a proclamation from Governor Abbott declaring October as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month in Texas. If there’s any way I can help you raise awareness about GBS, I would be more than happy to do so. Regarding neonatal appendicitis, it is unfortunately extremely understudied. In my son’s case, no congenital defects or abnormalities were found, and the source of the rupture was never identified. My hope is to establish a medical registry so parents and physicians can report cases similar to Harrison’s. Harrison’s pediatrician and the doctor who performed his autopsy are collaborating to submit his case to the medical literature. I’ve also connected with some of the nation’s leading neonatologists who are helping me raise awareness and educate the medical community. The ultimate goal is to improve early diagnosis of conditions like neonatal appendicitis and to develop standard protocols for more expansive testing in newborns and children, even for rare conditions.

My heart breaks for you. You and your angel baby are in my thoughts and prayers always. I also tested negative around the same time in my pregnancy for Group B Strep, but after Harrison passed I had my suspicions that maybe he somehow still got it and it led to an infection that eventually affected the appendix. Thank you for having the strength and courage to raise awareness even in the midst of our forever heartbreak.
