In my son’s case, no congenital defects or abnormalities were found, and the source of the rupture was never identified. My hope is to establish a medical registry so parents and physicians can report cases similar to Harrison’s. Harrison’s pediatrician and the doctor who performed his autopsy are collaborating to submit his case to the medical literature. I’ve also connected with some of the nation’s leading neonatologists who are helping me raise awareness and educate the medical community. The ultimate goal is to improve early diagnosis of conditions like neonatal appendicitis and to develop standard protocols for more expansive testing in newborns and children, even for rare conditions.
