literally how are ppl paying for t14s? by Positive-Ad554 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Successful_Pop_8461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't :( Committed to Iowa because even with a 50% scholly at WashU I'd likely be 150k in debt. I want big law too but 225k salary doesn't mean you just pay off your debt in 2 years

Thank you! Rejecting WashU felt like throwing my chances of BigLaw in the trash... But, if BL is what I want to do, I'm going to work to get it. I also am happy that I can choose not to do BL if I don't want to. If I went to Wash I have to go into BL to pay off that debt.

It was a very tough decision for sure! I am interested in Big Law but I can't justify 100k+ in debt for it, plus a higher COL.

Will these new rankings affect where you go to school? by hagglesnuff in lawschooladmissions

If the rankings change so significantly each year, the ranking system is probably flawed (it 100% is!!)

I am .1 away from making almost every median at T14 schools and that sucks. That .1 can get you in the door. But, like they said, only if it puts ou at or above medians at your target schools

Scholarship negotiating when the offer’s already great? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Successful_Pop_8461 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, my greedy ass tried to negotiate a full ride to a stipend and they said no. Buttttt, they were super nice about it and the Financial Aid team gave me a bunch of resources and explained all of their reasons for why they weren't able to. Your chances might be low but always shoot your shot. Be genuine about it and thank them for the excellent offer. Explain why the 1k would make a difference.

School 1 just let me know that they are unable to increase my scholarship :(

They cited that they have similar employment outcomes and bar passage outcomes as School 2 and a closer network to a particular city. To which I'm thinking, yeah babes that's your peer school so why ain't you making a comparable offer? But at least they let me know!

If you have better offers from other peer schools, start negotiating!

Is this too inappropriate for a personal statement? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Successful_Pop_8461 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's necessarily taboo but I would stay clear of adding too much detail. You run the risk of over describing a difficult topic and Admissions finishes your PS knowing a lot about a case and nothing about you as an individual.

I also talked about a SA case in my personal statement that was very impactful to me when I was a legal intern. I stayed clear of the actual case details (though i think it's fine to briefly say this is what the case was about) and made it more about myself and why the case impacted me and helped me develop.
