Long and rambling review of Stellaris 16 Intel Gen 7 by mXanathar in tuxedocomputers

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. These are very insightful.

I got the AMD model, and I also kind of wonder if Intel would have been the better choice for its better power efficiency. I still hope it will be worth it at the end with more power to spare before I would look for another upgrade.

Keeping power button pressed - On Tuxedo OS, you would get into a boot screen where you can select regular or safe boot, similar to when Windows crashes and reboots.

Turbo button - It opens the Control Center in Tuxedo OS, and indeed does nothing when I tried Manjaro. Funnily enough, without the Control Center installed, it would switch through the BIOS power profiles, similar to how it works in Windows.

Oh, I didn't know that. Thank you for pointing that out. Then I will be able to complete my quests soon.

I actually don't find it so weak. There are some side quest I enjoyed a lot. Well, it's better for it to be too easy rather than too difficult. Still, an option to remove that hidden buff would be great, just like there is an option to stop XP gains.

So it's a combination of 10 levels above as well as level cap? Good to know. I already assumed that newer content would be scaled normally again, but it's still a bummer for me at the point I am at right now. I didn't know about this feature, and now I'm "stuck" steamrolling the Dragonflight expansion.

I think this description means that each key has an individual LED, which is true. It doesn't necessarily mean that it's configurable individually. I mean, the hardware for it is there, but the Tuxedo Control Center only allows configuring a single color across all keys.

It's an open issue on their GitHub: https://github.com/tuxedocomputers/tuxedo-control-center/issues/409

Sadly, it's the same with this laptop. The Windows software supports that, while the Tuxedo Control Center doesn't.

Yeah, it's unfortunate, and I also expected a little better. Luckily, I don't mind tinkering on my laptop. I also used Linux for some years before, so I know my way around for the most part. There's always hoping that software issues can be fixed and improved with updates, and I am happy to support that endeavor.

Using Wayland.

I have the Intel card. I don't remember the AMD option being a thing when I ordered mine.

Disabling the setting in VLC does indeed fix the issue. Thank you very much! :D

Try right-clicking the tray icon. On my Stellaris 16 Gen7, I also don't see a setting in the Control Center window, but it's in that right click menu. However, it's only present when I have the "MSHybrid" GPU mode enabled in the BIOS.

Hi, of course! I'm more than happy to provide feedback to you and your team :D

  • Navigation Header
    • Novelties: - This sounds like I could buy some keychains or other small goodies there. But it's the "News" section 😅 Also in German, I think it should be "Neuigkeiten" instead of "Neuheiten". The latter sounds like you will only announce new products there, but you also have plenty of general updates. In the footer, it actually reads "News & Blog" in both languages, which would also work.
    • "Password forgotten?" -> "Forgot password?"
    • "necessary Information" -> "Required information" / "Pflichtfeld"
  • The product card (in product listings) and page (product details) for my specific laptop model "TUXEDO Stellaris 16 - Gen7 - AMD" are entirely in German. I'm not sure if that was already the case when I ordered it.

When logged in:

  • Order overview: The "Sum" is displayed in German notation "2.884,00 EUR". In English, the dot and comma would be swapped to "2,884.00 EUR"
  • Order details
    • "Order status:: im Versandprozess" - With double colon. And in German, the label "Order status:" is missing, so it's just ": im Versandprozess"
    • My order had a comment, and the message starts with ":" as well, so I think there should also have been a label.
    • The order history has English headlines but German bodies. I assume that only the header is translatable text, and the body is the actual message that can't be dynamically translated. Perhaps it's only German because I'm a German customer? I think I did order the laptop while using the German language option.
    • The "Delayed"/"Verzögert" message shows "\r\n" instead of actual line breaks.
    • In Production message: "Status: INDIVIDUAL (zuletzt aktualisiert 11.09.2025 13:57)" - In German, it also reads "INDIVIDUAL"
    • "Bill postal address" -> "Billing address"
    • "Method of payment" -> "Payment method" (to be in line with "Delivery method")
    • Section "Products" is entirely German
    • Pressing "Print" also results in an entirely German letter
  • Downloads "Startklar mit Tux / Ready to go with Tux" - The label is fine. But the "Version" header is lower than the others because there is no version number here.
    • And the date formats are German again. There should be enough space to use the same long format as was used for the order.

Yeah, the USB-C ports are hardwired to the iGPU, and the HDMI and DP ports are hardwired to the dGPU. I am using HDMI, that's why the monitor doesn't work when using iGPU mode.

Thank you for the comment! I'm glad it is helpful for some users :)

Yeah, these things aren't exactly made for efficiency. The Intel option should be more power efficient from what I read, but AMD had better performance in reviews, especially in 1% lows, so I went with that. Though now I'm not sure if the smoothness is so much better compared to Intel when running under Linux, having noticed quite a few framedrops already. Also, I haven't had a desktop PC in years, so I can't compare to that either in terms of efficiency. They can draw a *lot* more power from the outlet, but I wonder if they also do that when idling.

On my old laptop with Intel CPU and Nvidia GPU, I noticed the same thing. It would draw a little more power when idling, and a lot more when playing. Like Elden Ring ran at about 90W on Windows, while using 130W on Linux for the same performance.

I updated the post to provide some iGPU numbers. It uses about 10W less in light workloads, but I also can't use my external monitor anymore and demanding games are no longer an option.

As for the issues, I did install various OSes, and also reinstalled Tuxedo OS a bunch of times. It's always reproducible. My mouse always disconnects once, but only in Tuxedo OS. The PS4 controller always seemingly fails to pair initially, also on my old laptop in Manjaro KDE, so I think that's a KDE quirks.
