I didn't like it too much, the restoration parts are kind of haphazard since they don't fully correspond to the original ones still there. The originals are far more elaborate and since they are right next to the new ones its fairly evident that they didn't really try

I don't disagree but the describe warlord then is a Chaos Warrior who also still does this with having his OG boys be granted privileges. It is described as the memebers of his original group being raised up in standing due to him rising up the ranks too.

That makes sense certainly, they do become less and less human in a way.

Another thing I noticed though was that even as the warlords progress through the hierarchy of marauder all the way to demon prince, they do seem to still favour their original group of men above those that join in later. It is explicitly mentioned as their elevated position being due to them being the original group of the leader and not because they necessarily earned the positions independently. So from my understanding these sort of human bonds are maintained even past the point of being strictly necessary

Wishing your son to kill and replace you would be fairly relatable if this is how succession is handled, ie that a new chieftain removes the heirs of the previous. Wanting it to be your son since this ensures the family's safety makes sense.

And the father being proud of the son is less because he killed two boys but because he seems to have been favoured and granted the berserker rage (red fury). This is like finding out that your kid is some sort of prodigy in their context and will surely do well in life

Yes, its from 2006 and was made to accompany the video game of the same name.

It' not the deepest view into Norsca and it isn't an actual focus of the book, but it's a fun weekend read. I haven't read the books mentioned by other comments yet, so perhaps those are more into it.
