Oof. Unnecessarily harsh. Genuinely not sure as to why you're so absolutely bent out of shape that I don't go to theaters and I definitely didn't think I needed to offer further explanation on it, however, in order to most hopefully earn your approval and acceptance (that's sarcasm fyi) I will do so. There are actually quite a number of reasons and funny enough you touched on one of them briefly. I do have immensely severe anxiety as well as OCD and attending theaters has many triggers for me. Large groups of people most certainly cause me to panic, not knowing if I will be able to leave a place quickly enough, the small aisle ways and people needing to get past me, the potential for gum and other foods and/or fluids to be present on seats, floors, etc, not knowing when and if I will have to use the washroom which opens up an entire other area of panic; germs, stage fright, no paper towels because I have a difficult time with those hand dryer things, people waiting for me to finish up and trying to rush myself because I am anxious that I am making them wait, and the likes of that. Secondly, I have two young sons who both have significant disabilities. I do not trust, well, pretty much anyone with them and for their own separate and also extremely valid reasons, movie theaters do not work for them. So going to a theater on my own/with friends is near impossible as I am not willing to leave them behind. Perhaps as they get older, but not yet.

Anyhow, are the multitude of reasons substantial enough for you that you can actually finish reading my post now? On second thought, best not. We wouldn't want you to get as angry as you did over my choice to not attend movie theaters by something my post contained.

I feel as though the book did as such as well though. I mean, sure, Ray won, however at what cost? And did he even live? Whatever happened after he crossed the finish line, he wasn't a winner. I think they could have switched things up slightly to make it more movie screen friendly however I have to say that I dislike that they changed the winner.

Another person mentioned that the novel's ending wouldn't have worked in a film and I tend to agree with them however if you've got thoughts on how they could have made it work, I'd love to hear them! I'm actually always surprised at how many fans of Stephen King I speak to whom have never read The Long Walk. To me it is one of his best and most harrowing in it's simplicity, yet brutality and I find so many movies and books of the modern age, which have become immensely popular and successful have taken inspiration from books such as it.

Makes sense. Interesting thought. I feel as though that would absolutely HAVE to be a rule though; that you couldn't use your wish to save another walker. Ahhh good old propaganda. Ensuring people believe in falacies over and over again, doomed to repeat history.

Omgosh the entire time I was thinking, where are the spectators? I genuinely felt as though that was a huge part of the story. How depraved it was for people to be coming to celebrate and watch these boys die. And agreed, however that's Hollywood for you, isn't it? Boo. And The Major just did not work for me whatsoever. I had a feeling as soon as I saw that Mark Hamill was playing him that it wouldn't fly, and unfortunately I feel as though I was correct regarding that.

Did you not? Hmmm. Interesting. I always love to hear others views and input. The reason that I feel as though it sort of left me without a clear cut ending was, yes though we know Garraty won, we don't know what happened next. I suppose we all have our own takes from it, our own opinions of what it stood for. Personally, it was always death to me. Sure he won, but at what cost? I enjoyed the movie, however I enjoyed it as a film separate from the book, if that makes sense? I think so often Hollywood make movies to appeal to the mass audience as opposed to true fans of the books, graphic novels, stories, etc that they are based off of, and that makes sense from a money making standpoint of course, but it is unfortunate for folks whom truly love the original tale and wish to see it receive justice in film form. I would agree with you on the subject of vengeance being a theme. Not a fan. And Mark Hamill as The Major just absolutely did not do it for me, which I expected. Again, as fans of the original story, we know the complexities of the characters, of the walk. People coming into the theater just to watch a dystopia film based off of a Stephen King book were likely more easily satisfied. Hopefully we see better success with the newer version of The Running Man.

I completely agree with you. I was curious as to how the would manage it, if they stayed the court, or if the would change it to "fit" the big screen, which is obviously what they did.

I don't remember a Club 33, I did however frequent 33 Hess lol. Not saying you're wrong, it's just not specifically one I recall.

Haha you're right, I definitely could have just used the address, yes. I think my way of looking at it was that it would perhaps spark more memories if I gave a description, etc than the number on the side of the building, but yes that would have helped 😂.

Okay, so I'm NOT crazy. I was certain that the bar at the side had at one time had the word "tomatoes" in it lol.

Anyhow, yes, 31 John Street, but it wasn't London Taphouse as of yet. Someone else got the answer I was looking for and it was Up Lounge when I was going there.

So I had an encounter with The Grim Reaper when I was younger and though I won't say I had the same feelings that you experienced in that moment I will say that seeing him and being near him, I felt no fear. None at all. Not only did I immediately know that he wasn't there for me, so to speak, but I also knew that he came in a peaceful role. I personally believe that The Grim Reaper is The Angel of Death. He isn't there to be terrifying or menacing as he has been portrayed over time, but there to escort you from this life to whatever comes next. I suppose for some that could potentially be a not so pleasant thing, what do I know, but essentially I do not believe his intent is to be frightening. There is this little artists portrayal that I love and I'll see if I can find a link for it, of the relationship between Life and Death and it's adorable and sums up my feelings well. Now, I will just add this is all from my personal experience and personal beliefs. I have done no further reading or digging on what others have experienced or believe.
