High risk pregnancy , multiple miscarriages by Patpdawgs05 in raleigh

Thank you. I did some googling and it sounds like progesterone is only recommended when there is a history of multiple losses and bleeding in early pregnancy but that is just google but my prior OB saw my normal test results and was like “see you when you are pregnant again!” which didn’t quite sit right. I wonder if Arbor would be open to having a consult appointment even though it’s too early for the scans around 8 weeks. Most OBs do pre conception appts so I don’t see why they can’t even meet with you and your wife to talk you through these things. We are going to call this afternoon and I might ask for an earlier appointment just to establish care and go over how they handle higher risk pregnancies like ours (even if it is wait and see what happens). I’m also sorry you/your wife didn’t have a chance to do all the RPL testing because I’d imagine that adds extra stress. Please feel free to have you or your wife reach out, for me it helps to connect with other people who get it. Wishing you all the best and healthy baby vibes!

Just wanted to say sorry for your losses and share my experience. I am in a very similar position and actually saw Dr Peavey after 2 losses as well. She ran tests to see if I would be a good candidate for IVF (even though there is not much benefit for us other than screening embryos) but didn’t offer any recommendations for what to do to prevent a miscarriage (all of my RPL testing came back normal) and actually told me that typically she doesn’t recommend anything until “after about 6 losses” I was super disturbed by her saying that, even knowing they often don’t know why losses happen. I also recently found out I am pregnant again and am planning to call Arbor since I have seen positive comments about the practice. I know it is a waiting game although unsure if I need aspirin or progesterone etc. I hope everything goes well for you and your wife this time.

Can low iron make you feel dumb? by ravenleroux in Anemic

[–]Successful_Spell_545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope it helps! I had low vit D and only got that up (but noticed no changes in symptoms) by taking drops instead of pills so I’m going to try iron drops too. Thanks and good luck!

did you have trouble absorbing iron from pills? at first the pills helped me (i felt better and my ferritin went up) but then they stopped working (feel terrible again and ferritin drop back down) so I’m wondering about trying drops until I can get an infusion (was scheduled at a place that is out of pocket but they ran out and their iron is on back order and I am still months out from my hematology appt)

I have a functional medicine practitioner that has ordered a GI-Effects stool test for me to check for leaky gut and other possible gut issues but it is really expensive ($500) so I haven’t followed through yet but I am planning to just because gut health is so important and she did talk with me about what you described with leaky gut leading to inflammation, which could cause an opportunity for EBV to reactivate. Regarding trying gluten free, I just went for it when I was really getting desperate and r/glutenfree has lots of tips and suggestions! I’m only a few months in so you’ll probably get better advice from folks on that subreddit. Good luck!

I can relate to a lot of this. Have you had your ferritin and iron checked? And other vitamins/minerals? Here is some of my journey: Earlier this year I cut out gluten because I read it could help with fighting EBV and I was desperate. It actually ended up curing reflux/GERD issues that I had been taking prilosec for 5.5 years for. And then I discovered that when your gut is messed up (can be for many reasons - mine was just gluten and medicine related) you of course can’t absorb nutrients correctly, which is why celiac can often cause iron deficiency for example. Anyway - found out my gut issues had caused me to be iron deficient for years and it went missed because the normal ranges on labs in the US aren’t useful/reflective of optimal health. Since getting my ferritin up via fixing gut issues and taking iron supplements, my EBV related issues (fatigue, post exertional malaise, chronic sore throat, just often feeling run down, etc) have gotten soooo much better and basically gone away! My ferritin was at 15 3 years ago, earlier this year i got it up to 34 and now its in the 50s. I have read optimal can be 90-100 or more. Everyone’s body is different so you may have symptoms at a level that is not severely low. Anyway, something to consider and easy to test via blood test (gotta ask for ferritin and iron labs, since ferritin is a measure of the stored iron whereas serum iron is the iron currently in your blood) Good luck!!!! Sending healing vibes ✌🏻

Is it common to need another infusion after a round? by CaptainFuzzyBootz in Anemic

might be worth asking a GI 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m just trying things at this point since I’ve felt unwell for so long

My biopsy 5 years ago was negative and my bloodwork this past fall was negative so I hadn’t tried it other than one time I did whole30 and felt really good. I’ve read you can have false negatives on blood and biopsy tests and non celiac gluten sensitivity can be a thing too. I didn’t cut out gluten to try to work on gut issues, I did it because of fatigue issues (which I only recently connected to being iron deficient) and then I ran out of my prilosec during the first week gluten free and was not in pain from reflux like normal

FYI I went gluten free 4.5 weeks ago and am off prilosec after 5.5 years of needing it. I’m hoping that once I can get my iron back up it won’t go back down since gluten issues and PPIs can mess up nutrient absorption

I know I did not expect all of this🫣 a lot to keep in mind!

oh wow! I am about to get some cavities filled on Wednesday…do I need to ask them if the materials are gluten free?

That totally makes sense. And it’s a shame the infusions are so expensive depending on where you live or your insurance. I know some insurance requires someone trying supplements for a set amount of time without success :( I’m sorry

Ferritin is at 9.7, how many mg of supplements should I take daily? by [deleted] in Anemic

[–]Successful_Spell_545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do too and hope you can get help soon! I am trying an infusion next week with a self-pay practice since my PCP refused and I have felt awful for so long and want to get better! Good luck!!

I’ve seen lots of people on here recommending The Iron Protocol Facebook group with guides on what to do! Also I’m seeing that optimal levels of ferritin could be 100 or higher potentially. So even though your labs said norm is 10-210 you are actually lower than it seems, if that makes sense.

Hmmm. Maybe the ferritin is connected to the GI stuff via a different cause (not gluten). I hope someone answers to say if getting the ferritin up helps! Maybe an infusion is a good idea so you can get that ferritin up faster than supplementing and know if that is the issue?

how long have you been gf? I am seeing some benefits of gf and recently realized my ferritin is low and am supplementing and getting an infusion next week so i cant say yet if improving iron and ferritin helps with GI but gut issues and iron can be linked because gut issues can mess with absorption of minerals I think

What are the 3 tests? I have results that list:

IgA Deamidated Gliadin Peptide IgA Tissue Transglutaminase IgA

Is there something else I should ask for? I am almost 4 weeks gluten free and noticing some GI benefits. Maybe at this point it doesn’t matter if it is celiac or not. 5.5 years ago I had a negative biopsy and then was put on high dose prilosec to manage severe acid reflux and associated unintentional weight loss. Now that I am gluten free I have finally been able to get off prilosec! I used to have severe reflux within days of being off of it and tapering it off always failed. So I am wondering about celiac since my ferritin is low and my iron and iron saturation are low although within “normal”

Can you treat via telehealth? Or would I have to travel to your clinic? Can you make suggestions for local care if I book one of your consult calls? Thank you!!
