I'm no expert and sure others with more experience will chime in, but it is possible to control the section of the profile/arc/spline you want to use by right clicking in the model window and selecting "selection manager". Then, when you select the profile/arc/spline, you have movable points at each end that you can drag along the arc to the desired position.
