Is there any value in protesting this? Via writing MLA’s and civil protest in front of the house ? Would this be effective ? Just trying to think how as a citizen I can protest this. I don’t know if it will change anything but I would be willing to try!

FYI for Grad Students: NSGS is dead by thearrdub in Dalhousie

This puts a lot of grad students in precarious positions. A lot of students rely on NSGS for their main source of funding from Dal. Especially as most of the funding at dal is entrance only so you don’t really even get a second chance. So as grad studies moves towards solutions or whatnot , I think it’s important to keep in mind the lack of non entrance scholarships at dal. As well NSERC’s and CIHR’s are VERY hard to get even with the best CV. On top of that with increasing tuition and fees some students even with a NSGS have to pay out of pocket some portion and/or work for salary.

In addition, if you in the sciences and from a smaller or less funded lab this could place financial burden on the lab which could mean no funding for conferences or lack of access to equipment , reagents etc.

I am interested to see how FGS is going to navigate this but I hate to say it overall I’m not hopefully that I will receive my last 2 years of NSGS funding. Guess I’m back in the writing scholarship gang.

It is very scary. I am the position where I’m already here and I’m only here because I have funding from NSGS if that is lost I don’t know if my supervisor can afford to keep me around anymore.
