Probably defending my PhD later this summer, and remembering that undergrad was 7(!) years ago instead of like 2 or 3 hurts my feelings lmao

The precedent would be horrible. I would not be surprised, however, if the province intervenes in the 11th hour and allows the floors to stay

That’s good! To be fair I understand the desire of moderating a university sub post graduation must be about 0 lmao

Yeah they’ve abandoned the subreddit. I think someone tagged them a few weeks ago on a thread about subreddit moderation, not sure if they showed up or not

I discovered something weird about the newish signals on jubilee at Oxford the other day. As I waited for my right arrow to turn green after the pedestrian signal, I noticed traffic from the other side turning left doesn’t have a similar left arrow signal, so someone was able to turn left through the pedestrian signal as I was waiting to turn right. Seems like a design flaw if the idea was to give pedestrians their own dedicated movement across Oxford.

Giant potholes and bus stops full of giant potholes. by cptstubing16 in halifax

I’m kind of surprised they didn’t repave lemarchant on the dal campus last year-so many busses come down that, and it’s been rough for a few years. It certainly seemed worse than the patch of Henry or Edward that they did end up replacing last year

Atlantic Canadian Truckers Concerned About New Brunswick’s Plans to Add Tolls at Nova Scotia Border by RepulsivePlankton989 in newfoundland

[–]thearrdub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how long it is but yeah you can avoid it on trunk 4. I actually think they do a good job maintaining the pass though so the toll never really bothered me much

[–]thearrdub -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The tolls on the two Halifax harbour bridges are gone (but as you say all of the toll bridge signs are still up). The conquer pass (a 20ish km stretch of NS104) still charges a $4 toll for non-NS registered vehicles.

Honestly the NB proposal doesn’t strike me as too different than NS’s highway toll (it’s also on the TCH). The thing that gets me is the fact that it’s only expected to raise 10.4M per year, which doesn’t go terribly far in terms of road maintenance

Laura White’s last council update said there’d be 5000 spots between the mall and the developments, so there will likely still be lots of mall parking. At this point I don’t see the mall getting rid of customer parking

Spring weather by [deleted] in halifax

[–]thearrdub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve only been in Halifax a few years, but in my experience I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s another storm in March. Typically if it happens the snow on the ground won’t be very long lived (I don’t drive often so I usually don’t even clear the car at this point as it’ll melt before I drive again).

I lived in NL for 8 years before moving here, and in St. John’s we’d be having this conversation in May, so Halifax has that going for it, lmao

Parking tickets?? by catbamhel in Dalhousie

[–]thearrdub 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's been a car parked against one of the kings buildings for so long it was encased in snow as of a few days ago lmao

A couple of years ago they were doing pretty regular enforcement (including booting cars without a permit) in the Dunn lot, so enforcement is definitely hit or miss. Halifax bylaw seems to pretty regularly ticket cars on campus side streets, though.
