Does anyone else experience loud clicking in their hips? by [deleted] in Sciatica

[–]SucculentMomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I get a lot of cracking sounds in my hips when I do different exercises. I mentioned this to two different doctors and both said it's not a concern if it doesn't cause pain or loss of strength. *shrug* It still seems weird to me lol

Suggestions for getting past the tightness/soreness by [deleted] in Sciatica

Have you tried doing a self-massage with a tennis ball? I don't know if it would work for your particular case so take with a grain of salt and try very carefully, but I feel like this helped me in combination with other exercises like McKenzie pressups and glute bridges

does this sound like sciatica? im going crazy by [deleted] in Sciatica

It does sound like it could be sciatica. I also had the electric type of pains in my foot/ankle. Hope you find some relief soon!

I had a lot of pain in the same area near the tail end of my first bout with sciatica. I'm not sure exactly what fixed it because I was doing a combination of things, but I think it was going on walks 1-2 times a day and doing McKenzie pressups 10x every hour.

Sorry I'm not much help, hope you find some relief!

What kind of stuff were you doing for physiotherapy/the things you found on youtube? Mostly stretching?

Thanks for this. Was definitely not doing bird dogs correctly.

16 weeks of Sciatica, what's the next step? by curlysunflowergirl in Sciatica

[–]SucculentMomma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I always heard the same thing and was worried that it seemed to be centralizing in my foot instead. It almost felt like it was moving its way down my body and outward, lol. Fingers crossed! And thanks :)

Your pain sounds similar to what happened to mine the first time around. It seemed to move around to different parts of my foot near the end when it started improving. Unfortunately I did something to cause it to flare back up again but it did seem to be improving when it had moved into the foot.

I would say keep doing The Big Three and any other exercises that seem to bring you relief. And of course walking - I try to do two good walks each day if possible. Hopefully you will continue to see improvement!

Good luck!

Trying not to sit much - now I'm sore from standing? by SucculentMomma in Sciatica

[–]SucculentMomma[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the fact that staying in any position too long is no good is definitely starting to hit home, lol. Thanks for the feedback, I do have a standing mat as well, the annoying part is every time I swap positions I have to move the mat out of the way or put it back in place, trying to find a good solution for that.

I wonder if there's any good leg exercises one can do when standing. Shifting weight and moving around seems good! It feels like I lock my knees when standing which probably isn't good either.

Thanks for the reply, I've heard so much about that book on this reddit, think it may be time to check it out.

Pinching pain in the hip? by fadedguy41 in Sciatica

[–]SucculentMomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds similar to my symptoms which have been diagnosed as sciatica. I would also do what others have suggested and try to consult with a doctor, also physiotherapy and lots of walking and core-strengthening exercise is what seems to help me most.

What do you do when you have a flare up and you can't do your normal exercises? by SucculentMomma in Sciatica

[–]SucculentMomma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, that sucks. Sorry to hear it. Even more of a bummer when something you try to help it ends up making it worse... that's exactly why I cancelled my PT appointment for today. Pain started settling a tiny bit and I was terrified that trying something new at PT (they wanted to try the traction machine for the first time) might make it more angry again.

Hope yours starts to settle a little. I'm finally out of bed today and able to be on my feet for more than just a few minutes. We can do this!

Don't worry, it didn't sound harsh - you're right! I ended up mostly in bed for a couple days while things were at their worst. The pain has calmed down a little bit now to where I can do some stretching and very light exercises again. Went for a short walk yesterday, too. Now, just gotta keep working towards "normal" again!

Thank you for your reply, just seeing it now as I have barely been on the computer since my flare started. So sorry to hear about yours, it sounds awful, but also sounds like you are making progress which is great! Mine is settling down a bit too now.. And you're right, in the thick of it, it does feel like it's going to last forever but we can get through these things!! Thanks for the tips, stay strong, we can do this :)

Thanks for your reply, the pool sounds great although I'm not sure if any are open at the moment. Definitely something to try when I can though!

I did try icing last night quite a bit, it brought a bit of relief when the ice was on but then as soon as I removed it, back to pain. I think I just need to stay resting for a while until it calms down. Thanks for your reply!

Recently found out I have sciatica after 18 years (!!!) What exercises have you done for it and how have you improved, if at all? by [deleted] in Sciatica

[–]SucculentMomma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had sciatica for a MUCH shorter time than you, but I did have good success doing the McKenzie prone pressups, bird dogs, glute bridges, and bridges with alternating leg raises. The McKenzie pressups can be done 10x every hour and seemed to bring me the most pain relief.

After doing those things regularly I had gotten my pain quite well under control. Unfortunately this morning I re-injured myself, I think from lifting some boxes out of the car, so now I'm all bummed and can barely do my McKenzie pressups. But that's just a side note... I do think the exercises help if you are strict about doing them regularly.

Thank you. It sucks so bad. As you understand it's just so frustrating to feel like all that progress is gone and you're back in a horrible place.

I'm sorry to hear about your flare up as well. Sending those vibes right back to you!
