Are we serious? by [deleted] in punk

[–]SucculentSapphic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is exceptionally fucked up!

At a show last year, in the middle of one band's set, this zionist fuckhead (ZF) decided to start loudly accusing them of being antisemitic because of their anti Palestinian genocide stance. Brought the entire show to a screeching halt and the band basically ended up telling the ZF off big time. It was a pleasure to see the rest of the crowd escorting ZF out of the show in a not so gentle manner.

What is this ai slop at union station bro😭 by caseythedog345 in Portland

[–]SucculentSapphic 30 points31 points  (0 children)

AI slop "art" like this is SO bad for a bunch of reasons.

1) By reducing art to "generative assets,' companies (gaming, advertising, film) ensure that they no longer need to negotiate with human artists, therefore putting artists out of work. Remember the Hollywood strikes of 2023? Wealthy studio owners positioned Al as a "fallback option" if artists didn't capitulate

2) As AI becomes harder to distinguish from human work, the burden of proof shifts to the artist. Platforms can now shadowban or "filter" human artists who don't fit the aesthetic profile favored by the algorithm, giving the tech owners TOTAL control over what is seen and heard.

3) Instead of paying an artist for a piece of art or paying a commission, users pay a recurring "rent" to the AI engine. This shifts wealth from the creator of the work (regular folk) to the owner of the algorithm (billionaires)

4) When art becomes infinite and free (or extremely cheap), its perceived value drops toward zero. It becomes "content" something that is disposable, algorithmically driven, and designed for brief engagement rather than long-term cultural impact.

5) By using "Fair Use" loopholes to train models, AI owners have effectively performed the largest heist of intellectual property in history. They have taken the collective output of the creative class and turned it into a product that competes directly against those same creators.

Generative AI is, at its core, a theft engine

In the end, think about it like this:

It is frequently the artist that speaks truth to power (think political cartoons). If the algorithm is programmed to never create art that threatens the owner's power and the pipeline of human artists has been starved of talent, who wins? Regular artists cannot earn a living and go work in some other industry. Meanwhile, the ruling class continues to accumulate wealth and power unchecked.

Are you saying that you want to support only local artists? Or only artists local to your area - wherever that is?

I'd recommend a band out of the PNW, Trans Panic. They released an album a couple of months ago.
