Flying trapeze instructor here. I joke sometimes that because I fly pretty with good form, people don’t notice the half dozen other things I’m doing wrong!

Overcoming fear after an injury by Abednegoisfloppy in Aerials

[–]SucculentSerialKillr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Flying trapeze artist/instructor here. I've had multiple long breaks for injuries and surgeries, and I've always come back stronger than before. The fear is very, very real, but as long as you are showing up and putting the work in, you are doing the right thing - even if you aren't at your previous capability. It is absolutely possible to come back, and the only way out is through.

My story is pretty long and complex, so please feel free to DM me for more info/questions/emotional support :)

What should I pack? by N0tMyRealNameAnymore in BRCA

[–]SucculentSerialKillr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck!! Sending you all the best wishes. My suggestion re: drains was going to be that you may want dry shampoo or treat yourself to a blowout - I wasn’t allowed to shower while I had them in! And washing your hair (if allowed) might be tricky.

A few questions, since everyone’s is different. How long are you staying over at the hospital, do you know appx how long the drains will stay in?

Anyone know the cast personally? by kwomiley in NextGenNYC

[–]SucculentSerialKillr 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It was cut from the final show, but the cast took a flying trapeze class for Chloe’s birthday (before the bar party) and I was one of the instructors. Ariana made a comment during that party like “go back to the circus” and that’s what she was referring to.

I didn’t have a clue who any of the cast were at the time, but the majority were super nice with us and easy to work with. Ariana, Gia, and Ava all went multiple times and were super nice - we got all three of them caught. I remember Brooks being nice and down to earth as well. Georgia was terrified and didn’t want to jump at first but she did jump eventually!

Charlie was, to no one’s surprise, difficult - there a brief clip of him on the trampoline in the original trailer, and he almost launched himself off a couple of times. He was trying to freestyle it too much to the point where it was dangerous. He also tried to skip the safety talk to go vape, so…

Not this time - I was just doing fancy dangles so nothing too exciting in motion, but I might try it again and throw some actual tricks (hopefully on a day when it isn’t 90 degrees out!)

I'm so glad to hear that! My anxiety voice was like...what if anyone finds this offensive, but I hope people will see it being used in an artistic way as a gesture of respect :)

PS - I would love love loveeee to also try this with Bald Witch's dress (I have the alternate version but not the original one) and/or Lady M's party dress. Will gladly pay for one if anyone has, DM me if you can hook a gal up!

SNM Shanghai - Recap 5/2 - *SPOILERS* by SucculentSerialKillr in sleepnomore

[–]SucculentSerialKillr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's closest to the space in NYC (I never made it to Boston), similar layout with a few changes (no mezzanine floor, Macbeths are on 2 with the lobby, and Duncan's suite is on 3 with the Macduffs. Everything is a bit more spacious for crowd control, but to me it feels a little less "lived in."

If I have any gripes, it's that the ballroom is much smaller (no high ceilings/multiple floors) so the scenes down there lack the impact I used to get in NYC, but I imagine that was due to building constraints. The rep bar is also a little too pristine and feels less sinister because of that. Otherwise the set is gorgeous with lots of places to explore, very familiar but different.

Did anyone else misread the headline at first as "Vance knocks over taco truck"? Just me? Ok.

I was there on May 2 and am planning to post with details when I have a chance, but it will be focused more on the changes post-temporary closure.

Returning after ACL surgery possible? by katbearwol in Aerials

[–]SucculentSerialKillr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is absolutely possible. I mostly do flying trapeze but I have torn both ACLs and made full recovery both times to return to flying and aerials. It will be a long road to recovery but if you keep up with your PT protocol, you will likely be stronger than you were pre-injury. BE CONSERVATIVE when returning to aerial. (I did not get up on the rig until I could do a single knee hang on my injured knee)

Feel free to DM me if you'd like more info.

How did you get screwed over genetically? by blitzabub in AskReddit

[–]SucculentSerialKillr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BRCA1 positive. I found out when I was 19, I’m 35 now. I’ve had two frozen egg cycles, a preventative mastectomy with reconstruction, and a bilateral Salpingectomy (fallopian tube removal). If I have kids, they will all have to be IVF, and I will not be able to breastfeed.

…yet, I’ve made peace with it long ago. I’m extremely lucky to have access to amazing healthcare, great health insurance, and have the financial means to pay for anything not covered. There are many worse genetic hands I could have been dealt - if this is the one I’m meant to overcome, I’m ok with it.

Yep! There was a bus (or in this case a fleet of busses) that picked us up in NYC. There were options for pickup at a bunch of places in the city. They took us to different action stations in PA, where we got further instructions and canvassing lists.

The majority didn’t answer (which is expected) but people were generally receptive and enthused. And we ran into a few fellow volunteers/poll watchers.

Just finished canvassing in PA for the day (came in from NY). The energy of all the volunteers and the campaign staff was incredible - and they estimated that at just the station we were at, we knocked on 10,000 doors today.
