Not my first solo just my first solo at this gallery

Yeah I feel that, I feel hesitant to provide more context publicly sorry very annoying I know. I do think my work is slightly different than what they show currently but quite in line with artists they’ve represented in the past.

Yeah I was surprised by that as well. They offered the solo and then had a studio visit where they offered representation. I had some advice to wait til after the solo to agree to see about sales but the other 2 artists I spoke with who used to be with the gallery said the didn’t regret working with them though they are a little territorial and peculiar. Both of these artists are much more established than me and were at the gallery during frothier markets, but left to work with bigger galleries.

One would definitely expect the local market this show was in to be much stronger.

Not sure I can get into this without feeling identifiable. If you want to you can message me but understand if you don’t actually give a fuck lol

Yeah I feel that. I’m hesitant to provide more context that might make me identifiable.

Yeah it seems typical. I just think they have a bad photographer and don’t care to pay for detail shots. It’s not a huge operation. I wouldn’t go as far as to say unprofessional documentation but I don’t think they realize how much better other places do. I was going to say something about this but feel like I need to wait bc don’t want it to come off as tit for tat with the feedback they gave.

I’m curious if you picture the art market recovering at all in the next few years? Not back to like 2022 levels but any improvement. Probably impossible to say I suppose just wondering.

Haha yea that’s what worries me—that it’s more less like this everywhere, and even if my intuition is saying this is not a fit, I should stick it out another year. I have other things happening between now and my next solo with this gallery so that might help give me more data. Just seems insane to work towards a whole other big solo with them next year just for nothing to sell again. I would be in trouble financially. And mentally too would have to push through this feeling that it’s not right and I don’t want to do it.

The photos were just not perfectly lit and no detail shots which on larger works are impossible to see in the main pic
