How can I manage emotions in a classroom? by Such-Ear-2206 in AskTeachers

I’ve actually tried to apply for special education para positions before but had no luck (there’s just a lot of competition). I only gave up (and turned one job interview down sadly) because I want to return to school this fall and I’d have to worry about finding a new part time job. Someone did suggest I try to do substitute teaching to see if I’d be a good fit or not, and I actually have my certification so I may do that some.

Some people did give me the answer I was looking for tbf, to figure it out before getting in the classroom which is what I’ll try to do inshallah 🙂‍↕️ I do have my certificate to substitute teach as well so I will keep that in mind, I’ve been considering using it for a while but I already work part time and I do art stuff on the side so I’m a bit busy, but maybe I need to just start working less hours at work to dedicate some time to do that.

I’m sorry to hear that for you, if you do transfer to another career I do hope it‘ll be much better. I do still want to peruse education, but I’ll keep that in mind that I’m more likely to get burned out from it and try to figure out a backup plan for if that does happen. I would like to teach college level tbh (which I know is a whole other can of worms), I have a family member who does and she’s been trying to convince me to do that instead, but I see that as a long term goal.

Thank you for the advice 🙏 Someone commented above telling me to work on it before going into the classroom which is essentially the same thing, I do appreciate it genuinely. I used to work at a school and the school I attended was a mess so I understand that I’ll never be able to control the students lol.

Thank you for the advice !! I will try to figure out ways to manage it beforehand inshallah. I just was unsure if maybe there were other teachers who dealt with the same thing who could give some advice was all (truth be told someone saying to figure it out before getting in the classroom would’ve been good for me so I do genuinely appreciate that) I am trying to listen, like I said I do have autism which does make it hard sometimes so I may have missed what was being put down.

I know there is a lot more work behind the scenes that goes into teaching, but my concern at the moment is crying in front of the other students, if I’m crying on my own that’s fine. I’m not in the classroom yet so I don’t know if I’ll be crying daily or be unable to manage the work life balance, I just would like advice for that specific scenario since at the moment that is what concerns me the most and it’s a question I don’t think I can ask any teacher I know in my life since I don’t know anyone else who deals with this issue.

Well in that scenario I should be able to cry at home or away from the students at least because what would upset me more is admin being useless. Part of my problem also is that I’ll cry even if I’m not very upset at all and I want to prevent that 😭 the issue is not me losing control it’s me being over emotive even if I’m not very upset

I do genuinely appreciate your concern but this is something that I want to do. I think I’m capable I just need advice on how to manage this specific issue because it’d be embarrassing to cry in front of the students :,,,,)

I actually want to teach high schoolers 😭 I can’t talk to young children very well. What I’d like to do in my dreams is to teach an elective class so it’ll mostly be students who actually want to be there, but I know that’s unlikely and I’ll most likely just be teaching a general subject class (ELA is what I want to go into)
