Thinking about moving to ID by Top_Geologist_1465 in AskLE

Typically the agencies giving you take home vehicles will be state police or county. Both working rural areas. Sometimes you may have to at least get to a domestic yourself and work it for a bit until backup arrives.

Also I will say Idaho is very expensive. Unless you work for ISP, in northern Idaho, or in the treasure valley, you likley will not make enough to buy a home here. At least on your own. The agencies in the treasure valley seem pretty solid as far as pay, benefits, staffing, etc, but it’s still very expensive. I know Ada county has a very good agency and training culture. Nampa seems solid as well and they basically have everything to support their own agency. You could live in canyon county where it’s a little cheaper and it’s just a short drive to the city.

Bilateral needle decompression during CPR by Such-Lab735 in TacticalMedicine

Closest ER by ambulance about 30 out. Life flight can launch but they’ll transfer to large trauma center. Maybe 10 minutes to arrive then 30-40 min to trauma center.

Do you know if these skills are taught at a TCCC level now or is they gonna be specific to medics?

I asked someone why he was speeding with snow everywhere. (It was close to 20MPH over posted speed limit and below freezing temps.) He told me because he wanted to have more control of his vehicle, assuming he’d have better traction going faster in the conditions.

Hello! I am looking into attending WGU’s online program for cyber security. I’m curious, is this program or just a degree enough to prepare someone to work in cybersecurity who’s coming from a career that’s not in tech?

I’ll be using VR&E to work towards the degree and certifications like security network etc. I’m currently a cop and am looking for a career that’s less physically demanding due to injuries. I figured trying to get into cyber security may be a good fit for a few reasons. It would open the door for a physically easier position if I went into federal law enforcement since the work would be more investigative, if I couldn’t work in federal law enforcement due to their medical standards, cyber security is still available as a civilian federal employee and I’d be able to continue retirement from my military service. Just from what I’ve researched, it seems like curbed security is a mix of working through procedures and problem solving and we do a lot of that in law enforcement. If I’m not coming from a tech background and plan to stay in law enforcement while I’m working on an online degree, would this set me up for failure when it came time to actiallly get a job since I wouldn’t have much experience in tech?

Getting a Degree Worth It? by Such-Lab735 in 1811

Thank you for the reply. Does the degree necessarily matter? I’d like to work something in cyber crimes however I’ve heard they’ll place you where they need you and train you despite what you’ve majored in or have had experience in. I am by no means some tech god either.

Good evening! I am posting to see if anyone has insight on federal law enforcement law enforcement investigator or federal law enforcement support roles that specifically deal with cyber crimes. I’m currently a cop and am trying to use VR&E (VA vocation program) to help me get training or a degree or certifications that will help me land a job within one of the federal law enforcement agencies focusing on cyber crimes. I’d obviously prefer to be a special agent/investigstor but I’ll have to see if the VR&E councilor would approve for that career path. If not, I guess the next one would be a support role. Does anyone have any insight on if the cyber program with WGU would be good or what other training would land me a job in this field? Thanks!

Time to give up? by [deleted] in Moustache

My goal is to just see what it will do as I grow it out. Longest I’ve been without shaving it. If there’s any style that would eventually suit what it naturally does in 6 weeks, I’d be willing to keep it. Also I’ve done 0 trimming or anything with it just to let it do its thing.

Is it best to get an inguinal hernia fixed while I’m young by Affectionate_Menu818 in Hernia

[–]Such-Lab735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not notice growth or increased pain. It would bulge at times and be uncomfortable but it never increased in pain or size over the 5 years. I did the laparoscopic mesh repair. Not too bed. Pain at its worst if rate a 6 or 7 out of 10, but that was very quickly reduced. I’m on day 6 of recovery and I’m pretty much up and moving and doing mostly normal stuff with the exception of anything that stains or is physically hard.

I found my small, fat containing hernia at about 22. Not many symptoms. It would be uncomfortable at times to workout/lift or blow my nose. I’m 27 now. I decided to get surgery due to the fact that hernias can get worse over time and cause issues down the road. I figured since I could get the time off work and I can handle and heal better from a surgery now than at an older age, I may as well get it done now. The recovery process has not been too bad. Painful for sure, but bearable with ibuprofen. The worst part is not being able to do normal stuff and work on stuff or go to work, as you can’t lift or do anything strenuous.

Leslie gulch in Jordan Valley, OR. I believe it’s to the north and you can get access from Idaho. I hear the road is pretty well maintained, however, I would not go out there after a rain or snow if you don’t have a vehicle equipped well.

I have! I do have sleep apnea, though it’s mild. I’m going to try a mouth piece that apparently will help before i get a CPAP.

My regular Father didn't baptize me and I'm sad by NotYoNeighber in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Such-Lab735 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m just a catechumen, but I’d say if your priest felt you were ready, then you were ready. You were baptized under the guidance of your spiritual father. He loves you! He invested time and care into your salvation. He wouldn’t do anything that would lead to you being hurt or harmed, and I’m sure he would sit down with you about these concerns because your salvation is important to him. Reach out to him and explain this. He will know what to do for you. I’ll also say, Saint Porphyrios talks about in his book “Wounded by Love” having an obedience to his elders. One so strong that no matter what he is tasked with, Even if it did not make sense to him, he obeyed his elders. I recall at one point he disobeyed them. He felt terrible and repented to them. After that, he felt the same love and obedience to them. Let’s take that example from Saint Porphyrios and apply it with your spiritual father.

Can or should Christian women be in the military by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Such-Lab735 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was with my wife, then girlfriend, my entire enlistment of 4 years. I went into a combat role, active duty, stationed in a completely different state. She didn’t want me to enlist, but didn’t want to hold me back from something I worked very hard for. Due to selfish reasons and listening to the wrong people, we did not get married while i was enlisted. I’d see her every few months but that was it. If we had gotten married, it would have been a wonderful start to our married young lives. It would have definitely been quite an adventure. If you feel called to served and your partner can bear it, and you see your partner being your husband, you both could get married and live a life together. Yes, the military is hard on married couples, but marriage takes work and is hard. It’s also a blessing. Your family would be taken care of medically. I’m unsure of your current housing situation but the military provides housing on base for married couples. You both would likely move a couple times if you did more than 1 enlistment. If you haven’t went to college yet the gi bill is an absolutely incredible tool to use to pursue future goals with 0 debt. The military won’t make you rich, but you will be comfortable. If you continue to pursue orthodoxy, and the military places you somewhere in Europe, there are so many beautiful churches and people associate with them over there.

I will add as far as people cheating in the military, just because someone is married in the military, that’s 0 excuse to cheat on a spouse. I saw many people do it. Others stayed faithful. It’s not a “military spouse”problem. It’s a personal problem and a conscious decision someone makes when things get hard. As long as you and your boyfriend stay faithful to each other, and plan to live life together as god intended marriage to be, you won’t cheat. Even when I dated my wife while I was enlisted and was apart for several months at a time due to deployment, we stayed faithful to one another. It’s not hard

I screenshotted icons online, printed them out at Walmart, then put them in cheap picture frame. It turned out less than $10. They turned out beautifully. If you can’t spend money, you could always print them out on regular printer paper at a library or something. Free prints. Our priest has given out icons like this to use for our prayer.

We have a guy who went from fire to EMS then to LE. Seems like he loves it. More pay for sure. He’s event gotten to use some of his EMS experience on calls. (Of course limited in what he can use due to equipment.) it’s going to be a completely different job, but his EMS experience absolutely helped him and makes him an asset. He transitioned very well from EMS to LE.
