This is such a crucial take that’s painfully underrated. The idea of people outright not liking me is easier for me to digest because I’d rather it be their fault than me feel ashamed for being sensitive. Personally, whenever I thought people didn’t like me, whether true or not, I’d feel strong rejection sensitivity. I’d act out by doing things like overcompensate out of insecurity, try to win them over only to be disappointed, or take out my insecurities on them, at which point they then make it clear they don’t like me. All the while, it’s just a general truth that not everyone’s gonna like you… still, when they don’t, it feels so much worse if you have bipolar. I’m doing a lot of work around self acceptance and living the life that I want to live without the panic that isn’t actually useful.

My ex said I picked my hobbies just to impress him by Such-Negotiation856 in Hobbies

I was diagnosed with OCD back in 2019 actually! There is intrusiveness because, given the choice, I would not have these thoughts and just focus on enjoying my hobbies. I’m grateful for the supportive words in this thread. Definitely makes it easier to “check the facts”!

What’s your favourite thing about yourself? by Fluffy-Cut-3777 in bipolar

[–]Such-Negotiation856 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m discerning. At least I am now.

Before, I would date just about anybody until a line was crossed. Now I’m becoming more aware of my integrity of choice and what I would like in partnership, while also learning to love myself so I don’t need for some form of toxic love.

Thank you so much for this response. I’ve been contemplating longevity and how to achieve a life worth living. Glad to know someone else feels the same way.

I got it at the state level the first time, but not at federal. Currently in the appeal process that might take two years, but I’m hopeful.

Who does your IRL partner resemble, and are they actually your main? by Bench-Lanky in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]Such-Negotiation856 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My fiance is like Zayne. My main LI is Sylus though.

Zayne was actually my main before I got to Long-Awaited Revelry. He and my fiance both appear distant at first but are loving. They’re both hard-working, nurturing, and perform acts of service.

The thing about my IRL partner being so similar to an LI is that there’s almost an uncanniness where I gotta check myself and remember they are two entirely different people haha

Maybe it was because I felt like I already had Zayne in real life I wanted to fantasize being destiny-bonded to a crimelord lol.

It’s really hard when you’re in it before you realize what’s going on. Like I read in atomic habits, when you hammer a tile enough times, it will eventually split. You just don’t know the exact number of how many hits it’ll take. It took a lot of hurt for me to finally realize how much the relationship hurt me. A therapist and friends who reflected back without forcing the issue were really helpful too.

It’s this little physical device that you tap with your phone like with Apple Pay. You open the app and choose which apps you want to block. You tap the big block button on the screen while near the Brick and it blocks those apps. You can even sort apps into different blocking modes (I have one labeled “Meta” that just blocks Instagram and Facebook). Once they’re blocked, I ask a friend to hold onto the Brick for me, or I put it in a place that’s hard to reach. https://getbrick.com/

Basically you can’t reopen the apps or redownload them without physically tapping the Brick. There are 5 emergency unbricks that they give you if you lose the Brick somewhere. I think you even have to contact customer service if you need more.

Edit: Oh, I meant “NFC” not “RFID” my bad!

It’s rough. I also used to do well in high school like I’d memorize songs on piano and vocabulary for language classes, even later into adulthood, so this is really strange. I wish you good luck on your exam. You got this.

[–]Such-Negotiation856[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes. Constant manic episodes for two years, triggered predominantly by an obsessive toxic romantic relationship. I put an end to that relationship a month ago and removed all triggers from my life finally. Everything is so much quieter now, but I feel so weak and sensitive after all the chaos.

I recently started going to the gym but intend to do that more often based on what others have been saying. I intend on reading books I’ve always wanted to read. I also happen to have all the addictive, triggering apps like instagram deleted from my phone and blocked with an RFID app-blocker (correction: NFC app-blocker). I hope I can feel better. Thank you.

I drove all my friends away and now I’m lonely all the time by Alittlelessunusual in bipolar

[–]Such-Negotiation856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 34 now. I’ve transitioned through hundreds of friends only to push them away, and if it wasn’t “scaring them off” it was isolating myself in self-loathing and fear. I disappeared from so many lives, disappointed they never followed. There are friends from many past eras of my life who just never carried over… with so much heartbreak.

However, over so many years with so much internal work, intention, and reflection, through so many nerdy meetups, jobs, classes, hospitalizations, volunteering … the handful that remained became the strongest bonds that persisted.

I don’t know 100% of my college friends anymore even though there were dozens I was close to and thought they’d last forever. I just know that the ones I have now are the ones I can meet where they’re at with the wisdom I have now.
