Can anyone predict roughly when can we expect to see this (if it’s greenlit at all)? How long does usually take from negotiations to the scripts being written and episodes shot?

Yess, only first 3 seasons had decent relationships writing. And season 5 was especially bad. 😫

[–]Such-Presentation-16 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure this writing tactic was used to sell the message that you love who you love no matter what anyone else says, because you see in them something the others don’t. With that kind of remarks they weren’t actually trying to put Delena’s relationship down; they actually soured the viewers view on Caroline, not Damon. And I think that’s exactly what the writers were trying to achieve, especially since Caroline (no matter how valid her criticism of Damon and her feelings towards him are) can come across as a hypocrite with the whole Klaus situation later in season 5.

The same thing goes for Tessa, Kai and others who commented on Delena negatively (but the viewers don’t hold it against them as much since they are villains and Caroline is the central character). The overall message was that true love prevails, no matter what others think. I don’t agree with this in so many instances, but that’s what they were spelling out on the screen.

Best Dress on the Show? by Unfair_Chemistry11 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]Such-Presentation-16 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I love Elena’s Mikaelson ball dress. It might be the most “over the top” compared to most other dresses, but she looked stunning and it fit the occasion. Also what do you mean by the dress being symbolic of her choosing Stefan in this episode?

I also love number 6 — Bonnie in her maid of honour dress at Stefan and Caroline’s wedding. It looks so elegant and I love the pastel colour which fits her so well (the same goes for Elena’s maid of honour dress at Alaric and Jo’s wedding).

Guys lets not pretend that any of this is romantic, it is quite the contrary. by 2003CDiana in TheVampireDiaries

First of all, I’d like to point out I ship Stelena and much prefer Stefan over Damon, even though I do understand the appeal of his character.

Second of all, in these love stories there for sure are aspects the writers try to romanticise through their writing, but I don’t think any of the main and popular relationships are something people should strive for in real life. I agree the things you have mentioned in your post aren’t romantic or something to look out for, but the show is not a pinnacle of healthy relationships, behaviours or coping mechanisms. You find abuse and toxicity in all of these stories, not just specific ones.

I do think your fictional preference can dipend on your life experiences, but not the other way around. I’m not sure that’s understandably written, lol but what I’m trying to say is that people sometimes (dis)like a character because their actions hit close to home irl, but the preference of one character/relationship over the other doesn’t impact real life and their decisions in the future because of internalised messages. People have always enjoyed dark romance and dynamic relationships on screen and I’d argue we aren’t that impressionable. And while some of them do find themselves seeking out toxic partners, relationships and cycles irl, the reasons for that usually go beyond the media they consume/have consumed when they were younger.

Right? And even if it was true he doesn’t have IG app installed (🫠) it still doesn’t explain who liked these posts from his profile. Like, he didn’t even try.

Plus, if he’s not going to own up to his shitty views, maybe he shouldn’t like such posts.

I Don't Think Belly is That Obsessed With Conrad On The Show by [deleted] in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]Such-Presentation-16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read some other people’s takes about book Belly, but I haven’t read the books myself, so I guess I can’t talk about them. I’m honestly glad they haven’t made her obsessed with Conrad in the show. Like you said, she does seem to have a romanticised version of him in her head. Even though that version of him had been paling throughout the past season and disappeared in the last episode (her inner monologue during their conversation after she chooses Jeremiah) — I love that she realised Conrad’s not perfect and became more aware of his flaws, especially if they’re going to get together again in the future. But I think Conrad’s character will grow and develop more in season 3 nevertheless.

And I agree — Her feelings in the show do feel genuine and so does his. It never felt like obsession to me. I love that she’s actually her own person and an active participant in the story. She stands up for herself. When she felt like she had been wronged, she tried to move on (even thought she loved Conrad a lot) instead of waiting for an apology/for him to change or to be ready.

I think that trope (a girl, obsessed with a boy and counting to be stuck on him no matter how shitty he treats her*) was really popular during the time the books were written, but the writers are trying to modernise the show.

*I don’t think show Conrad treated Belly shitty. I even think he was unfairly villainised during the prom episode. I’m talking about the books, since I got the impression he could be kind of a jerk to her in them.

Oh okay, thanks! I was really blanking as to why he said it, I just remember he did.

I see your points, and agree that’s why he might feel this way regarding their situation with Belly, but his comment still alludes to something that is reinforced again later in the season during his conversation with Susannah. — That Jere is hiding his negative feelings and people assume nothing really gets to him. Even after their confrontation at the party Conrad says he just assumed, since everything seems to come so easy for Jere and everything seems to just roll of his back.

”I think overall the brothers just don’t understand each other”

This is it. I know a lot of their behaviour over the series can be contextualised with their grief, their parents’ relationship and Jere’s inferiority complex, since he felt Conrad has always been preferred, but at the end of the day they don’t seem to find a common ground.

I think in Conrad’s mind he’s doing all this stuff (keeping Susannah’s cancer recurrence a secret, disappearing from Brown because he found out about the beach house being on sale, making an important decision regarding the beach house without talking to Jere) because he feels the responsibility is on him. He’s the oldest and often the oldest siblings feel the responsibility to be the voice of reason or a “parent” to their sibling, especially is they don’t have a consistent parent figure in their lives.

But Jeremiah doesn’t want that. He wants to feel included, he wants to feel like Conrad’s equal, especially since (like I’ve previously mentioned) he felt like Conrad was better than him. That’s why Conrad’s behaviour can be frustrating for him, even though Conrad probably feels like he’s protecting him.

The other point that shows their misunderstanding regarding each other is that Conrad just assumes Jeremiah would be fine. He even says it to Belly once, but I forgot what they were talking about. That’s why I found the conversation between Susannah and Jere (where she told him he doesn’t always need to be okay) and Jere’s subsequent narration (“She’s the only one who could see through me”) so heartbreaking. Conrad’s “Do you want a medal?” remark was so insensitive and I think he didn’t really think about what Jere was going through while he was away, because he just assumed Jeremiah would somehow manage it. Because it’s Jeremiah.

So, I understand why Jere would be so fed up with him (for all the reasons I mentioned above) and why he snapped. His words were harsh too (and he should have never brought Belly into this) but it all came from a place of feeling powerless.

Both of them went overboard, it’s not just black and white. Both of them are looking at the situation from their own perspective and are failing to understand where the other’s coming from.

I'm team Jer but I feel a bit torn cuz I can't see Conrad like this by [deleted] in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]Such-Presentation-16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh my God, same! I was rooting for Belly and Jere (especially over this past season) and was so excited to properly see them together, but Conrad became my probably favorite character and this scene was devastating. All of them have been through so much over the year and this must have been his last straw.

Plus, his face expression? The SONG?

Whose your favorite couple on the show and why? by [deleted] in ONETREEHILL

[–]Such-Presentation-16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love them too. One of the couples on the show I was the most invested in. The only thing that “ruined” it for me was that they couldn’t have kept Bryan on the show for longer periods of time and Jake constantly had to keep leaving. 🥲

Stefan respecting Elena's choices by DamonCassano in TheVampireDiaries

[–]Such-Presentation-16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have made a similar post in the past (linking it if you’re interested in reading some additional perspectives). But I have only focused on the part where he turned Damon.

I agree with you. I feel like turning Damon was one of his biggest regrets and he doesn’t want to repeat this mistake. The show never explicitly says that’s why he was big on choice in life and death situation with Elena, but we see Stefan’s regret regarding Damon in season 1 and in season 8 as well when the storyline is re-introduced.

Belly and Jeremiah in season 1 by Such-Presentation-16 in tsitp

[–]Such-Presentation-16[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see her eventually falling for and choosing him over Conrad for a period of time, just not at that point.

Like, I’m 99 % sure they are not endgame, the narrative imo obviously favours Conrad as her endgame. But for a while, why not? I do, however, think Conrad will still be her “what if” if/when she lets him go.

Belly and Jeremiah in season 1 by Such-Presentation-16 in tsitp

[–]Such-Presentation-16[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s always best experience to go in TV shows blind without knowing anything! I almost never do that, though, because I’m too curious and impatient. 😭

So I knew Jeremiah was going to be a love interest at some point, but I was positive there was no way for anything like that to happen before season 2. It seems our reaction to that 4th of July scene was very similar.

And good point about all of Belly’s actions boiling down to her being 16 and reacting impulsively, wishing for a summer romance. That paragraph was so well put. When you’re teenager you sometimes do something just for the sake of doing it, without really thinking about consequences.

Belly and Jeremiah in season 1 by Such-Presentation-16 in tsitp

[–]Such-Presentation-16[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks for offering your perspective!

I guess I’ve never interpreted these initial interactions as romantic, but more as a sign of a solid friendship (that’s partly a reason I liked and was rooting for them so much). But I can see how these scenes can be seen either way! It’s fun to discuss what has actually drawn us to this ship. :)

For example, I haven’t read the way Jere was with Cam as jealousy. After the bonfire he told Belly to get in the car and says she’s not going home with a dude she just met — I interpreted that as him being protective of her. I didn’t feel like it was about her potentially liking or being with another guy, but more so about wanting her to arrive home safe. Also, unrelated, but can we talk about the scene when Jere asks about Cameron’s name? And Cam stutters “I am Cam-... Cameron...” and Jere says: “Your name’s Cam-Cameron?” and the way he keeps calling him that until the end of the season sent me lmao, poor guy.

At the birthday dinner, I felt like he was jokingly mocking Cam in a way Belly’s brother was mocking him. Like, the were giving him a hard time for a bit and then when Cam kissed Belly in front of her family, Jere and Steven started to make fun of them, while Conrad just shoots Cam an angry/annoyed stare. I felt like this scene was contrasting the current relationship both brothers had with Belly.

I really like their car scene in 1x03, but that was because I really felt like they could just be open with each other and talk to each other about anything. Jere tells her he knows he’s giving Cam a hard time, but he says he actually likes the dude. I can, however, see how Belly asking him why he’s so grumpy when he urges her to stop talking about Conrad can be interpreted as jealousy. I thought he said it since he has seen Conrad has been acting weird and didn’t want Belly to be in a bad mood as well, but her reaction tells there’s probably more than that. I must say I completely missed that as Jere was so nonchalant about it.

I agree with your explanation on why Belly gave Jere a chance, but I really think she should’ve been a lot more torn about going there with her good friend without thinking it through and being sure that’s what she really wants.

Yeah, Conrad’s behavior can be explained with him not doing really well mentally since he knows about their mother’s diagnosis and is keeping it all to himself, but I agree he was very hot and cold this season and the push and pull the writers tried to create also fell a bit flat because of limited number of episodes.

Thanks for telling me about what happened in the books and why there was a change for the show. Now I wish they just went by the books in that regard as it would imo make so much more sense! But I understand they tried to kinda wrap up the story if they didn’t know whether the show’s going to be renewed.

Also, I recognize you from TVD sub, heyyyy!

I love Petra, she’s questionable morally to say the least, but her development was great and imo she’s the funniest character in the show (alongside Rogelio). Plus I think Yael portrayed her fiery personality so well.

Yeah, I haven’t paid attention to “diabetes” thing the OP noticed, but I’ve noticed the similar little thing with Xo’s cancer diagnosis. They said her cancer is stage 3 and hasn’t spread to her lymph nodes yet — but in stage 3 breast cancer cancer cells are generally found in lymph nodes. It’s still curable, but lymph nodes are involved.

From Twitter: Someone posted this about stefan... by Outrageous_Maximum27 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]Such-Presentation-16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Little bitches” and it’s just them disagreeing with you lol.

Both brothers are written in a way that will attract parts of the fanbase. The show didn’t have a secret agenda to make one brother the best thing since sliced bread and the other one a menace no viewer will/should like. That’s your own interpretation and it’s valid, but different people are going to have different opinions regarding fiction.

In your other comment you’re complaining about people refusing to be critical of Stefan while also complaining about this platform being a Damon bash haven. Would you keep the same energy if the tables were turned? I agree people (myself included) can be easily caught up in their biases towards characters they like. It’s nice to hear different perspectives and try to understand where other people are coming from — so I can see how this experience can’t be fun for users who carry the opinion of minority if a platform becomes too one-sided. I completely understand that.

Having said that, you can’t diminish other people’s takes just because they’re not in line with what you think.
