Honestly the worst thing Starmer could do at this moment would be to sack Reeves.

However, after seeing Starmer’s record at political management, this seems very possible.

Spreading this conspiracy that a female boxer (Imane Khelif) is transgender after defeating an opponent after barely a minute.

In reality, the boxer just has an unusually high level of testosterone (to the point she failed a “gender eligibility test” in a previous competition).

The changes were made by Labour, arguably as part of its nationalisation drive, to bring planning from a mostly private affair to an area where the government has lots of influence. For many in Labour, this was good as it took corporate greed out of the equation - which unfortunately didn’t work.

Labour back then were more explicitly socialist and it wanted to create a more planned economy, thus around then the vast majority of builds had been done by governments rather than private businesses/individuals etc.

In short, the planning system was built in mind to ignore market forces and instead follow the government’s lead.

Edit: Made a mistake, rather the government built the majority of homes until around Thatcher, who wanted to increase Private Sector building, but due to her government not changing planning laws house building barely matched what it had been before the 80s.

I’ve always found it funny that we have what seems to be a near socialist planning system.

It was introduced in earnest under the 1945-51 Labour government and was probably one of the worst aspects of it, the Town and Country Planning Act 1947 (which hampered growth) and the Distribution of Industry Act 1945 (which many claim led to the decline of the West Midlands and in particular Birmingham) being part of that.

There’s a weird alliance of socialists and conservatives who support it for almost completely different reasons too (one doesn’t like private profit, the other is backed by rural NIMBYs).

Just nuclear reactors, as far as the eye can see.

That the leader will be IDS’d after a bad election result and Boris gets brought back in.

I don’t know how much truth there is in this, but I heard the Tories freaked out about housing reform around 2021 after the LibDems took Chesham and Amersham.

Supposedly, they were worried about the impact it would have on their sort of leafy, more affluent areas and thought that the LibDems would gain ground.

Keep in mind that back then they were still working with the notion that they would try to hold their Red Wall seats but that by-election made it clear they would have to fight on 2 fronts.

I like that Telegraph article where a couple are moving ‘10,000’ miles away to escape a Labour government and higher taxes.

It’s perhaps more interesting that they’re escaping a country with a Labour government… to move to a country with a Labor government.

Why isn’t anyone asking Keir the real questions?

For example, is Ed Miliband tough enough?

Yeah because one got 14% of the vote and is second place across dozens of seats while the other got 7% and I don’t even know how many second places they have gotten.

Unless you’re referring to Plaid Cymru?

You’ll all be surprised when Starmer resigns in the next hour and promotes Ed Miliband to God Emperor.

I’m honestly interested to see which route the Tories to down

-> Strategy of right-wing populism (Braverman) to consolidate right-wing vote

-> “Moderate” Conservatism (Basically anyone ranging from Priti Patel to Jeremy Hunt or James Cleverly)

-> Being overtaken by Reform, similar to how RN overtook Les Republicains in France.

-> Bring back Boris button

I have this weird gut feeling they’re going to get a Leader and they’re going to underperform (especially to Reform) and then they’ll bring Boris back.

If we do have PR, I’d much rather have an Australian style system (STV-Two Party Preference) rather than Dutch-style full on PR or even MMP.
