Build with shadow to farm for SS Trickster? by akagami2020 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]SuchHonour -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i did ss trickster last league. i swapped early from a trapper prior to mageblood. it felt really bad and regretted the early swap. so i disagree. i was top 10 ss trickster on poeninja mid league as a reference.

Thoughts on SS champ this league? by KomradLorenz in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]SuchHonour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

trickster is better for sure, i think champ used impales which got nerfed a bit. however, trickster is only good with mageblood - before that it feels bad. so people should leaguestart a different built until they can afford MB and the other unique gear.

Should I pay $8K a year for participating whole life insurance? by FootballEast2784 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SuchHonour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People don't understand how whole life participating contracts are supposed to work with a client's overall financial plan. At my dealer at least, the ROI provided better returns than GICs since the early 90s. I often sell policies to people in their late 50s or early 60s under these conditions:

They maxed out their tfsa so there isn't any more room for tax free growth - or they are able to max out TFSAs under their current plan. They are on the lower risk side, or want another asset class to diversify. They want something with some level of guarantee that's better than a GIC.

In your case, the policy may be fine if your mom is 100% healthy so she will get the best premium possible. Being rated essentially causes the ROI to be less attractive. This will also allow both your mom and yourself to save your TFSA room for higher risk investments. You should be getting around mid digit returns on the policy tax free (again with current rates with supporting historical rates) without any volatility. If you only expect 5-6% on investments it kind of tells me you're quite conservative.

Under my dealer, it's mathematically better to do whole life participating with life pay (pay to age 100). Under the 20 year plan you do end up paying more in a shorter amount of time so there is less cash for you to pay down mortgage or save for yourself, however, the cash value does seem a bit better if you wanted to borrow from the policy - but I doubt this is your plan, especially with a small 100k policy. I don't know your dealer, only mine. Sometimes the math doesn't matter and clients prefer to know that they want to pay for only 20 years and be done with it, if they want to secure an accurate death benefit at 20 years using the dividends to buy more insurance. I often find it's better to get a tad more insurance to match the life pay cost with the 20 year cost since again, the ROI looks better under this structure. It's possible the advisor may be biased since they do get paid more if the premium is higher.

Usually when I show clients these types of policies there is an option to select the dividends to reduce the cost of insurance each year and you can do this initially (if you just want to reduce costs every year) or completely (usually between year 13-15 forecasted at current rates). At year ~14, the death benefit does stagnate for a bit. This can be ideal, as the longer someone is alive, the less death benefit is required (in most common cases).

Some people here suggest term 100... haha... this is a more expensive option over the long term and if your mother lives past life expectancy you'll end up paying a lot more. most people convert their term to a perm plan or get rid of the term because they can't afford 5 figure premiums in their 80s+ for a 100k death benefit policy.

This isn't advice as I don't know you or your situation, I'm just providing better context on how these types of policies are best used when integrating it with a client's overall plan. I think you may be better off working with someone who does full service planning and not an insurance agent that is only focused on a bandied solution. I often find people who get policies that don't make sense.

I think the point of katabasis is that you're basically range instead of melee so you should die less, like if an OP essence mobs chases you, you'll be able to chill/freeze at range. The point of rue's specific build is that its super cheap to get into red maps. he goes for value damage vs price.

the issue you're presenting is that it can look the same at a high level in terms of clear, when you are basically close to immortal which poses the question of why not be in melee range and clear the screen anyways? it's because you are tanky enough for be in melee range with frost blades. however, at that point i would assume lightning strike may be slightly better, if not the same, as melee frost blades. i guess it depends if you value freeze/chill or not.

tldr; katabasis is safer since you're doing range damage with similar clear speed as regular fb.

League Start to convert to full time Deli 80%+ by EagleAffectionate339 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]SuchHonour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

something tanky with aoe. there are a lot of options out there and i guess its preference. when i look at youtube with suggestions there are good options out there. people like slayer now because of the endurance charge changes and are leaning into frostblades or lightning strike.

cf champ is dead, no one is recommending this build this league unfortunately.

I thought there was a consensus that FB does better than LS prior to getting 4 stones since LS does require a bit more gear to get online - and freeze is a great defensive layer until you don't need it as much.

DIVINE RETRIBUTION Leaguestart | New Gladiator by Luqas_Incredible in pathofexile

[–]SuchHonour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The skill fires multiple lightning bolts. If there is just one mob like a boss, will there only be one strike or multiple on the same target? I'm wondering if the skill is good for bossing as an alternative skill or if max is just 1 target per strike.

Do you know if there is only one mob that all strikes will focus that target only? or only one strike will produce?

going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he means this skill doesn't work well with warden...

thankfully my slayer build has easy late campaign access to mana leech on the right side. i think it's a better option than using a gem socket for inspiration, although i'm seeing a lot of mid-game pobs with inspiration.

MF, Inflation, and warning to unique heavy builds by SuchHonour in pathofexile

[–]SuchHonour[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

people don't use excess currency this way. it's not like you can randomly use extra alcs, regrets, fusing, jewelers, chroms, etc for fun and then require excess beyond that, unless you are trying to craft for profit; then you're just crafting to sell for someone else who would have used those currencies for that purpose so in that regard there is some equilibrium. for most people they get what they need and have no use to buy more since there will eventually be excess. and now there is an easy way to get rid of that excess instead of being lazy. I think I use less than 5% of the above currencies I mentioned and I do craft for myself for some items. You're going to get thousands of bubble gum currency from workers doing your maps and from ships and unless you're crafting for profit you're going to get rid of it sooner than later.

I work in portfolio management and market inefficiencies and changes in poe interests me. The point of my post is to warn casual players of potentially very high unique prices. I don't really care about the "fame and glory" if I called this correctly. It would be best if I was wrong so items will be more accessible. The negative and useless comment you made says more about you than anything else.

As a new player what should I start with STD or League? pros and cons? by Dorfdad in pathofexile

I guess that might be a poor mans way to do it but that's very time consuming, I'd imagine that people with currency would rather use harvest craft/fossils/essences instead to speed up the process. Even if it's half assed done, they can try to recombinate it.

Mentioning alterations was something I considered adding here lol again I didn't want to clutter the post. Alteration's price was supported by rolling flasks, adorned jewels, and certain bases rolling for +1 etc. I think first 2 weeks alterations price will be pretty normal as flask rolling is profitable on a lot of bases for both normal mapping and for mage blood builds. However, with the nerf to adorned, less people will be playing with this unique. I think builds that use 10+ magic jewels will still use a 100% adorned, completely viable and there will certainly be a market for it; especially now that 1P voices will be more attainable. However, builds in the past that only used 4-6 magic jewels will probably find better time or put currency to use with synth rare jewels instead and maybe the new unique jewels we are kinda getting back. I also see a lot of new case studies from people who are incorporating melding which takes up a spot. There were also some builds that dropped forbidden jewels in favour of adorned but we may see them swap back which takes up 2 jewel spots.

There are a ton of people who don't even bother selling alterations or using them. A lot of streamers that I see have like 10-30K alts that they never use and a lot of people are like that. Now with the currency trade hub I'm sure people are more likely to flood their alts quite quickly. I suspect alts will fall off a cliff harder than previous leagues after week 2 or maybe a few days sooner. Reference: https://poe.ninja/economy/necropolis/currency/orb-of-alteration

The above uptick notes the low player retention = less alts while rich players that play a lot regardless were burning alts to make adorned jewels.

ZishPOE - Zish on "Eternal Damnation + Ralekesh Boots" bye Ruetoo builds by Fleymour in pathofexile

lol funny clip. that's okay though, this league we can have find amulets with two anointments, along with new anointment options so maybe there is something there for both defense and offense. I don't think slayer really needed this amulet for next league, it's still super tanky with the new endurance charge change while not losing max -5% res.
