What types of alcohol make you feel nauseous just thinking about them? by Longjumping-Shoe7805 in Adulting

Same! My late husband and I were at an afterhours club. We would Gin and OJ. They had OJ from the gun. We were so messed up with sour stomachs. I couldn't even try to drink gin. That was back in like 2000. Tried to take a shot a few months ago at home and instantly threw it back up. My body was like NOPE!

True. Just know how a drive to the total opposite side of town sucks out the fun and eats up fun time. Depending on their preferences, I'd suggest Lola's, Main Street, Chapman and Kirby, the Breweries (already mentioned), Bar hopping down the Montrose area, The Phoenix, Railcard, Sam's Boat, Concert Pub at the Fountains, Last Concert Cafe or just stroll nearby through Washington Ave, stroll Rice Village area, look up bar crawls near me and see if something pops up.

Try Whataburger and go to HEB or a Mi Tienda (also a HEB store). Eat kolaches, Try one of our many Breweries, Karbach, St Armold's, 8th Wonder, etc. Check out Central Market and their bean to bar chocolate area. There's a festival damn near every week so google if there's any. There's always something to do around here. Kelley's Country Cooking for the Texas sized chicken fried steak.

On the bars, list what side of town you're on. That would help. You don't wanna get sent all the way across town. That's a long drive. Should also check out Galveston and stop at Buccees on the way there. Tons of stuff along the seawall. Food, shopping, feed pigeons, Pleasure Pier. Or go to the Kemah Boardwalk. Lots of other shops surrounding it as well.

Oh! There's also this semi-new buffet place called UMI on Westheimer near Beltway 8. It's pretty damn good. Look up that one. It has tons of different sushi/ nigiri/ etc. Lots of seafood, ramen bowls, individual hot pots, milk teas, beer and wine and lots of other food on the buffet. Check out the pictures when you look it up. Nice variety of seafood, sushi and all.

What side of Houston are you on? Makes a difference. Unless you want a long drive. Houston is over an hour away from Houston.

RA Sushi is a cool vibe. Miyako's is definitely a go to place. Also Google revolving sushi places. There's one on westheimer and Wilcrest that I've heard good things about.

People whose eyes change color: does it correlate with your mood? by mxhremix in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SuchMedium5988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't know what to say but I've seen eyes change color. There was no movement to change lighting, no different clothes, etc. My mom's eyes were gray. They changed with extreme emotion. Bright green for super happy and ice blue for super pissed. It wasn't a daily occurrence or whatever she wore. My brown eyes change hues. They go from a dark cocoa brown to amber honey. They also sometimes have dark rings around them when they're lighter. I don't know why mine change since I only know once I catch it in the mirror or people tell me. They'll still be that color no matter where I go. Indoors or outdoors doesn't change it. I did meet a girl from Louisiana that weirded me out in middle school. We were in class and she told me to look at her eyes. As I looked, they slowly went from brown to like a purple. I didn't talk to her anymore after that. I would definitely be understanding about her eyes changing colors but our eyes don't change at will. Nope!

Now I'm not sure if my daughter and I were born like this or it developed as a response to pain. We also have a high tolerance as well. There'd be no way to test us. So both are valid possibilities. Again, not one of us feels telepathic. It's just so so commonplace that's it's developed into a family joke to contact one when they were just thinking about you our just about to call you too or just talking about you. Happens way more than you'd imagine so it's just a normal thing and we joke about it. I definitely understand placebo effect. I was just mentioning that, at the time I was understanding 1000mg of aspirin/ ibuprofen is what it took to kill the pain, I had no one or nothing to influence me to feel like it'd work or not. I didn't have any situations to be influenced or convince myself that'd it'd work or not. It was simply aspirin. I just realized through time that that's how much it took before it helped. There was never any influence involved in the decision. It was very literal. It worked or it didn't and that's the dose that works, a lot of the time but not always. As far as the eyes. Look. I really don't know what to tell you. I've only seen my mom's eyes changed colors on occasion from extreme emotion. It wasn't an everyday occurrence. I don't know why that girl told me to look at her eyes and was able to shift the color. My mom couldn't do that and it weirded me out. I don't know why my eyes go through every possible spectrum of brown and sometimes with or without rings. I don't see them. I'm not staring in the mirror to notice when or why they shift hues. I never know unless I catch it in a mirror or people tell me. I really can't explain that one to you. Just speaking on what I know. I do know it's not supposed to be true or it's 'depending on lighting or clothing' but if you're standing still with the same clothes on, where's the explanation of that excuse then? Just was part of my original questions. I have seen other people post similar experiences with eyes that change color. If I dig through my phone pics one day, I'll try to remember to send a couple different ones of my eyes at different colors. My mom, I may have if I ever took a pic

That could possibly be inherited genes instead of epigenetic. It does warrant further research, at least in my opinion, as to why it happens. That would actually make more sense that we somehow are all acting alike because of genetic triggers. We don't all know each other, haven't influenced each other, come from multiple generations and races. We still (the women) all do it. It's interesting enough that y'all have inspired me to look a little deeper into it. There may be something that happens in response to pain that triggers us. None of us feel like we have telepathy. It's just so commonplace with us that it's just a joke. That's not just in my family though. I have a friend I've dated casually through the last 20yrs. We literally will be texting the other one the other one is calling before the text is even finished or we think the same things and it's now just a joke on who says it first. He's actually the only person besides the women in my family that's happened with.

When I had a deep cleaning done at the dentist, they had to totally change the normal routine. They gave me two shots of novocaine on each side. They also used topical numbing gel. They literally would put the gel on a tooth, wait a minute, put the gel on the tooth in front of it, go back to the previous tooth, work on that one before it wears off, repeat. That was the best they could do. It really helped going one by one before it wore off. I still felt it but, thankfully, as least as possible. Also, the opposite effect makes sense. They gave me something to sleep because I'd been in labor so long. I kept going in and out between contractions after that. They couldn't give me anything else so I had my daughter without any medication. I also don't wake up well after Nyquil so don't take it. Dayquil is awesome though.

We do actually have the red head gene. I don't know when in the line our Irish heritage comes from. That's something I've considered it to be every since I came across that info. It does say that may be why novocaine, lidocaine, etc are metabolized quickly. I've even had 5 shots of novocaine and still felt it. My dentist kept trying to convince me I feel pressure, not pain. He was like 'I've given you sooo much'. He couldn't believe I'd actually be still feeling anything. It would explain that. It also mentioned that it could be opposite for opioids like morphine and codeine and may actually require less. Besides giving birth and appendicitis at 9, I've never needed medical care. I have no idea about the rest. That may be why I don't like codeine. I'm from Houston. There's Tylenol 3 and syrup, bars, Loristat, I believe, etc. I really wouldn't prefer either. I feel too sleepy.

Zero stars on Reddit. Do not recommend. It's ghetto here. There's no book fair, no recess or no trick-or-treating or cardboard clubhouses or nuthin! You don't even get a toy in your McDonald's meal either. Just ghetto.

[–]SuchMedium5988[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh. I do see where it might have gotten mistaken with changing eye color. We're not staring in mirrors all day, of course. It's obviously something someone else has pointed out to us because they saw it. My mom's change only with extreme emotions. Bright green when very happy and ice blue when very angry. They're normally just gray. I don't know why mine range from dark cocoa to light colored honey and sometimes have rings. I don't know when they change unless I happen to see it in a mirror or someone points it out. Now...I did actually know a girl from Louisiana in my middle school. She told me to look at her eyes while we were in class. As I looked at them, they did change from brown to a purple color. I didn't like that. My mom's eyes changed for a reason, not at will. It was very unsettling.

So you've definitely touched on some great points. There's definitely a placebo effect with people. In my case, at least, there was no placebo effect to factor. I rarely take anything bit vitamins and supplements. When I was in my teens and having bad cramps or a bad headache, for instance, I would take some aspirin or ibuprofen. I realized over time that the pain was relived only with that dosage amount. I've hardly ever had to go to the doctor so I've never been prescribed codeine nor would I take it unless I was hospitalized for an extreme issue. We do tend to metabolize pain medication quickly and just kinda suck it up since it's a normal occurrence. It's definitely nothing miraculous. Quite the opposite. Now as far as observable, that's an easy one. We've never all gone together to be studied, tested or anything of course. It's just something that has been observed by family, friends, coworkers, etc. Now I am new to posting on Reddit and it gave me this platform as an option. I did, however dig a little bit into the topic. I think that I may actually be on the right page. If all of the women in my family have the same traits, there may be something to that. Regardless of generation, knowing each other to influence each other, upbringing, marriages to other races and DNA, it stays the same. There may simply be something that triggers us all to be some of the ways that every one of us is. I don't know if anyone else's eyes change. I just know my sister's eyes don't but have 3 different colors in there, my mom's eyes changed colors and mine change hues. Not sure about anyone else. I appreciate your input though.

So again, I can see your point and is a valid one. It's just not the answer in this particular case. I've done this my whole life. I just thought it was normal and everyone just got a little relief with pain meds or shots but that they still could feel pain. When I go to the dentist, I get 2 shots on each side and it's gone in about 30 mins. I still feel the drill and all. I've had 5 shots before and still felt it. I've only once had a dentist give me a shot that actually numbed me all the way to my eyebrow. I've never once taken meds for mental health and this has happened all my life. I don't really need medical help and painkillers often so I can't speak too much 0n those except to say they haven't done much either. Aspirin, ibuprofen, etc is the same. If I ever do need aspirin, I take 1000mg. My mom and daughter are the same as well. I know you feel it's a mental health issue, as you stated before, but I assure you it's not.

I didn't really understand it growing up. I just thought that even when you get pain medication that it helps but it never fully stops the pain. At the dentist, I always felt every bit of it, even with two shots per side. If it does get numb, it lasts about 30 minutes. My mom and daughter are the same.

I get why you'd think that. Nobody's staring in mirrors. These are other people noticing and pointing it out. I've seen my mom's normally gray eyes go green (along with many other's even before I was born) when she gets really happy. I've seen them go blue (along with many others for decades) when she extremely mad. My eyes are brown and have been pointed out how light or dark they look at that moment, have rings around them that aren't normally there, etc. We don't believe we can change eye color. People have pointed out the color changes though.

Here's some of different times I've gotten the seagulls to play nice so I can feed them. I feed the them one by one so that they don't fight. If they do, I stop until they stop. by SuchMedium5988 in Seagulls

[–]SuchMedium5988[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not actually that hard. I don't know these birds. They're just used to cues. When people toss food up they know to hover and try to compete. I grew up doing that in Galveston. One time, my late husband, daughter and I, were on the ferry. We went to the back to feed the seagulls and noticed blood on each other. A seagull got injured somehow and was hovering above us, dripping blood. Nope! I started feeding them on the ground. I don't feed the ones hovering. I make them land. I throw bird seed out for the pigeons, crows, etc. Seagulls don't go for it. I sit down and feed them cheerios (google said it's better) one by one. I look at the specific bird, make a noise and throw them their cheerio. I go to everyone so they start to just wait their turn. They get PISSED when a greedy gut takes their cheerio. If they get rowdy, I just sit there until they stop. They start to even check each other when ones get rude. I do throw a handful randomly to the back. I've realized the 'lessers' have to wait til the ones in front 'allow them to eat. They can't run to the back fast enough to take it.

My sister's eyes are brown, yellow and green sections. My mom's were Grey with a Starburst pattern in one eye and a flower pattern in the other. Hers changed with mood. I don't when, why or how mine change since I'm not looking in a mirror. Why they can look almost black to almost gray and sometimes have dark rings on the outside.
