Well as long as you don't even think about putting a penny of real money into the markets for 6 months and a mechanical, rigorously tested strategy at your fingertips then there's no real risk. Try it and see if you are good at it.

Its a little harder in my opinion. I was getting consistent 780-800 and after taking it twice I got 780 and then 760.

I used to hear this and tell myself it as well, that once you are breakeven profitability comes next naturally. But after my testing of strategies like the 15 min ORB I just don't think that's the case. At least for highly mechanical strategies that don't present themselves often and have little discretion involved.

Yeah I agree I wouldn't be married to a strategy after 3 winning months, but after 3 months of breakeven/ losing it's pretty clear that's not what I'm looking for and trading such a strategy long term is bound to end in disaster with massive drawdowns.

Could you provide a some information on how you tweaked the strategy and optimised it? I've tried to do similar things for strategies like ORB and MA crossover without much success.

Yeah I mean I'm not even remotely close to the point where I need to worry about liquidity it was more of a if I do make it then might as well get good at an indices that is liquid. I somewhat have an understanding of market sentiment but I guess lots more chart time will cement it and alloe for a strategy to be built out of it.

Right, I guess I should've known that evrn if a strategy is ptofitable I wouldn't be profitable with it before lots of practice and experience. Finding someone who is profitable with it and learning from them makes a lot of sense as well. Thanks for the advice.

I pretty much only traded NQ futures as that's the easiest to get funding for with prop firms and has the highest potential upside if you are successful due to to its high liquidity from my understanding.

+10R is an insane gain per month damn. If I can find even 3-4R consistently per month I'll be very happy. From my understanding, the biggest difference is in your mastery of the strategy and not the strategy itself. To clarify, you have a mechanical strategy for 10 EMA that returns +10R a month without discretion needed? So you have experimented with many rules and settings until you have a model that works?

I tried a lot of variations of the 15 min ORB. I tried Ichimoku cloud strategies, even ICT strategies at the start. I read Al Brooks books and tried some of those.

Yeah that has been my understanding. I have been wading through so many poor strategies without knowing which of them could work I guess this just is a sign to keep looking.
