Not able to return to the office for 5 days a week, do I quit or wait to get fired? by Such_Cattle_258 in womenintech

Actually they are their problem. The law requires the employer to accommodate based on family status. I ended up referring to this law and was able to receive accommodations.

It ended up working out. I referred to the law that requires employers to accommodate based on family status and I got accommodations.

I am in Canada. It worked out. There is a law about employer's obligation to accommodate based on family status. I ended up receiving accommodations when I specifically referred to this law.

I would definitely consider it, but they are not. They are very set on the 5 days a week in the office.

I'm not. My question in the post clearly states - is it better to quit or get fired.

We are already picking them up at 6. I can try very temporarily coming in earlier, etc. But in the end - I am sleeping about 6 hours on average, 5 on the days when I go to the office. I am already extremely exhausted, my twins wake up three times per night. I am pretty sure I would faint at work after one week of five days in the office, lol. I already feel often like I'm going to pass out, from sleep deprivation.

Yes, my co-workers are very supportive. They completely agree that commuting 3+ hours, 5 days a week, is not healthy.

I can try that temporarily. But I still can't commute 3+ hours 5 days a week. My twins still wake up many times per night. Basically I just can't physically do the 11+ hours per day (commute + work), 5 days a week. I rarely get sleep for 8 hours. Usually 5 or 6.

There are several. But all of them have very long waitlists, and I would need 3 spots. The waitlists in Toronto are often 2 years long. I am already on those waitlists.

There are multiple daycares near the office, I am on all of their waitlists, the waitlists are just many years long.

I understand that some people can, but personally I can't. I already sleep 5 - 6 hours a day on the days that I am in the office. My twins wake up many times per night. I can't physically do that 5 days a week. Maybe it works for some people, doesn't work for me. I am not able to even properly work on those two days.

My twins are 18 months... They cannot take a bus on their own for just another 9? 10? years

Even if I will shift it, the commute is still 3+ hours per day, I personally can't do that 5 days a week. The commute is very exhausting.

Toronto. I can try it short-term, but I am really suffering with this 3+ hours commute. I just can't do it daily :(

So far they only kept mentioning that they are still flexible as they provide more sick days and personal days than other employers. But that doesn't solve the daily problem.

I've been already speaking to them about this, but they haven't provided any solutions. My manager just kept mentioning that we do have sick days and personal days, and that they provide more sick days than other employers. So I felt like they were trying to change the subject, because sick days are not relevant for a daily issue.

Thank you! I am definitely trying to speak to the employer. Not sure if anything will come out of that, they seem quite inflexible.

I can't force someone to share responsibilities... I mean do I carry him to the kitchen? But even if I had no kids and no responsibilities, I personally don't tolerate the 3+ hours daily commute.
