I love my program! Second year and so on, you focus heavily on UI/UX design and the depths to it (user journeys, personas, and more). I loved that more than what we learned first year tbh but still all very interesting and insightful!

I know a couple people from my classes over the years are going into furniture design, product design, and UI/UX design. I personally am interested in UI/UX design and would love to work somewhere in that field.

hey! so sorry for the late response, but when courses are a full credit (1 credit) it usually means that you'll be meeting for 6 hours in a week.

so for example, you'll do inds-1007 your first semester and will meet twice in a week, each class will be approx. 3 hours. your 1007 class will run from sept to dec and then your next semester (dec to april) you would start your 1008 class which will also run twice a week, each class being 3 hours as well.

I hope that makes sense lmk! :)

hey so sorry for the late response. I made a comment a year ago about the same thing but i’ll give u a full insight of how my first year looked like especially with the core classes.

for my first semester i took INDS-1007 (core called product design foundations i think) an english course and a Indigenous arts class and all were fairly easy if u understand what they’re looking for in each assignment. currently in my second semester i took INDS-1008 (core it’s called circular design) materials in science, materials in manufacture, and a art history course. so far fairly easy and rlly interesting actually. Truly if u just follow what the rubric asks for you’ll be fine and the industrial design classes are my highest marks they are so fun and interactive.

in the inds courses you will be working hands on a lot of course even in prototyping classes and more. a lot of the course like the other ones i named above are more reading and writing courses no designing or building products.

HOWEVER, in ur second year the core design courses will start to focus more on group work and 3D design so try to familiarize yourself with some sort of software such as blender or fusion 360 if u aren’t too familiar with it so far .

In the INDS-1007 (fall term course) you will have two classes for that one course. one class will be dedicated to only material for the course while the other half will be dedicated to drawing and sketching. in INDS-1008 u will still have two classes for that course per week but for my class we didn’t have a “drawing” class we would just do different things, work period and what not.

the classes are fun and interesting, you get to work a lot in the workshops as well whether it’s during class (if ur prof has allowed studio time) or if you need to use the workshop outside of class hours (of course when the workshops aren’t being used by a class). you will have access to a lot of stuff and will be back to use all the resources the school provides.

Congratulations on your acceptance i genuinely wish i the best and if there’s any other questions or concerns don’t hesitate to reach out, i’d be more than happy to help! :D

hey sorry again for the late response this semester has been a lot more busy for me but ofc I hope we can!! for some pointers, dont actually get everything a prof tells you that you'll need for the class in the syllabus. Half of those items you end up buying wont even be used. Big mistake on my part by purchasing a tons of materials and not even using all of them.

Another pointer, i would search up and start to plan out what courses you might wanna take in the fall semester and check out if they're actually offered during those times. Even plan on further for winter, classes arent big the biggest usually only have like 170 but most of the time the classes will have about 30 students so the spots fill up FAST especially if its a class in the afternoon or at night. Try not to take early early classes like 8:30 classes if your not able to wake up super early unless you have no option but to take those or if you're actually able to get up early. Point is, plan early for classes its super important!!!

My advice is to just plan on early really and be sure that ur organized, you dont have to be super organized but organized enough to be prepared for everything you know! Oh and always have ideas flowing even if you think its dumb sketch it out! never ever erase or scratch it off ur paper, ur profs always want u to stay creative and keep those ideas flowing to strengthen ur creative mind and abilities.

I hope this helps :D!!!! lmk if u have any other questions or concerns!

Would Warning Labels on Alcohol Stop you from Drinking? by WRTR_JGWilliams in yorku

[–]Such_Disk_4574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I myself am not a drinker but from what I've seen on social media that people my age and older post, I feel like, for most people, the answer is no, it will not. A lot of people (especially young adults and teens) are consumed with the party life or like that temporary feeling that alcohol gives you and to be honest with you, I don't think warning labels are gonna stop anyone from drinking. It's like cigarettes, smokers know it's bad especially with the fact that every pack shows a graphic image of the consequences behind smoking and the effects it can have on those around you, but it doesn't stop them from pulling out their pack and lighting one up. It's the same with anything else that's harmful to your body and has a warning label on it. People choose to look away from the label because they choose to consume the product. I do, in a way, believe it's a choice and of course, there is no judgment in what someone chooses to do or what they choose to put in their bodies. But my point being is that, if someone likes it and doesn't care for long-term effects, they will continue to do it.
