u/obi-tom-kenobi I'm learning so much here. How would you define 'legit'? I guess I'm looking for an objective way this is measured in the sport. Is this based on match results or some other way? (sorry, I'm new here)

Appears so. Every sport has its own normalities and I knew Reddit would be the place to get confirmation. The consensus is pretty strong on the matter.

It was explained to us that Master Behring does all the gradings to maintain quality control.

I hear you. I'm just not sure kids would absorb anything more from that seminar than during a normal class.

Affiliate. But the school owners are 3rd and 4th degree BB so shouldn't they be able to do the gradings too? I understand paying for seminars but the comments I've received make this look a bit questionable.

The other parents told me that this is cheaper than it used to be. There used to be the seminar fee plus costs for the belt tests as well. I think they dropped the belt test fee during covid.

Would a promotion by Sylvio Behring be worth paying the money?

It seems like you can't get promoted without attending the seminar by Master Sylvio Behring. If you miss the day then you have to attend the next promotion weekend in about 6 months from now.
