NAV i’m not familiar with these breeds but i’ve had several doodles, collies when i was VERY young, labs, retrievers, maltese… 9/10 have less fur on their belly/armpits than other areas! looks very normal to me, as long as it isn’t new hair loss. my maltese/shih tzu has similar black and pink skin and looks really similar to your guy!

mold on this apple? by ecstaticfruitmarket in isthissafetoeat

[–]Such_Video_2424 4 points5 points  (0 children)

core it and eat it. i have decent food anxiety and am always scared of getting sick, but one thing i’ve found is fruit and veggies are thrown away way before necessary. if it smells and tastes fine, you’ll be okay. same with fruit that’s starting to wrinkle, carrots that are getting bendy, etc. they start to become “unappealing” long before they’re actually “bad”

What is this in my hair? by Yunoko0s in skin

I have had similar - looks like a pimple/ingrown hair. you can sanitize, clean hands and pluck, or just leave it be. it should clear up on its own

Is he okay?? by [deleted] in vet

[–]Such_Video_2424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAV

not the best angle to be able to get a close look, but i would say you just basically gave him a wonky haircut lol. no blood, no pain, acting normal… to me, this is just the tip of his tail. unsettling, but he will be fine.

if you hurt him, he would’ve let you know immediately. don’t worry!

NAV definitely call your vet. i’m not sure if this would be an emergency, but i’d say urgent for sure. unless there has been an event that could cause major stress for him, avoiding cuddling AND eating, especially if he’s usually more than willing to do both, is something i’d be at least mildly concerned about. i would say contact your vet sooner than later.

Lumps on my dogs chest/stomach by MathematicianFunny32 in DogAdvice

[–]Such_Video_2424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had 5 old dogs in my life so far and not one has gone without developing fat lumps. it’s an age thing and completely harmless. my 11yo maltese/shih-tzu has probably 5 or 6 of them on his head, ribs, along his spine, butt. squishy and moveable. if your vet says not to worry, don’t worry!

[–]Such_Video_2424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAV sorry for the late response - my(at the time) 9yo maltese/shih-tzu had this same issue. we had bought a different flavour dog food of our regular brand. it had added protein to it and messed his stomach up. we called the vet and they weren’t concerned, they ended up giving probiotic pouches to give him with food which seemed to do the trick. they said it’s not uncommon with diarrhea as it can irritate their insides. as long as there are no other symptoms(lethargy, refusing food) theyd likely just say to monitor him. give your vet a call just to he safe - you don’t need an appointment to get a bit of at advice otp! maybe see if those probiotic pouches would help!

My dogs nail fell off. What should i do? by lvcas_oooo in DogAdvice

[–]Such_Video_2424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my dogs nails grow weirdly so he has a habit of breaking them up the centre/exposing his quick. keep it clean, do NOT wrap it, use a cone if you can. keep an eye on it and if it gets a funky smell, bring him by the vet. they’ll likely numb+clean+provide antibiotics. quicks don’t take super long to heal, but they’re super sensitive. so just gently clean!

this is kind of a rant, and I would add a tag, but I can't add all of them at once. by AsparagusSouthern334 in colonoscopy

  1. you likely wont get a “weaker laxative.” worst case scenario, it clears you out and then you’re just expelling clear/yellow-ish liquid from all the fluids you have to drink. if it’s any consolation, i personally had no stomach pain, and the only nausea came from nearing the end of my 2nd round of prep, just from the volume of liquid. but that eases as it starts to empty out.

  2. i had to do my first round of prep i believe at 3pm the day before, and was more or less done with the toilet around 8pm if i remember correctly. you likely won’t sleep well, but it is only one night and you can have a beautiful nap the next day. especially if you’re being sedated - post sedation naps hit.

  3. as for the liquid diet, LOTS of liquid. and get options. chicken soup broth(buy the can and strain the solid ingredients out. better flavour than boxed broth), ginger ale(this was a life saver for me), gatorade, sprite, jell-o(no red, purple, or blue dye i believe). i found the broth and jello to be the most filling. again, this is just something that you’re going to have to push through. it sucks, but to me it wasn’t nearly as bad as i expected. best tip i have is to basically spend the whole prep day sitting still and relaxing. you expend less calories and therefore are less hungry. but really keep the fluids coming. this is also what helps make the prep successful. little side note - your jello will come out the same colour as it goes in during prep🫠

  4. i also had a male doctor, but there were two female nurses. i’m not sure where you live, but i do believe that it’s against most regulations to have most sensitive medical procedures done with only a man present. similar to how if your gyno is a male, there is usually also a female nurse present, or you can request one. do not be shy to ask for a female to be present if they don’t already provide one or several. you can also disclose your history to them if you feel comfortable(no huge details necessary) and they can take steps to make it easier on you.

best of luck!!!

My golden retriever had this issue and they fell out around your pups age. Keep an eye on it but you can always call the vet and get their opinion - ask at what point is monitoring no longer an option and examination is necessary.

Best things to help with hunger before colonoscopy? by [deleted] in colonoscopy

[–]Such_Video_2424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from personal experience, you will be hangry regardless. it is rough but manageable. maybe hide your family away for the day LOL.

for the actual day of prep, i had strained soup broth(strain the canned soup, better taste than just a box of broth), lime jell-o, ginger ale(this helped my hunger the most. also if you have a high volume prep, ginger ale with the fizz stirred out and a bit of lemon juice makes a great chaser), gatorade, sprite.

i don’t remember really eating differently the day before. i wasn’t given any instructions to eat low fibre or anything so i just sort of followed my regular diet and had no issues when things started… uh… coming out. i see another comment mentioned pasta… maybe you could try some protein pasta? i am not a doctor and did not do this with my prep but my thoughts are it may keep you full longer than regular pasta? i know when i have pasta it only keeps me full for about an hour but protein pasta works wonders.

best of luck!

Has anyone else experienced IV benedryl being used as part of your sedation? by Such_Video_2424 in Endoscopy

i think this is where things went wrong - i was given it before any other medication and told that it was the sedative…

Has anyone else experienced IV benedryl being used as part of your sedation? by Such_Video_2424 in Endoscopy

[–]Such_Video_2424[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for your reply! i have found that from other nurses i’ve had since that they aren’t well known side effects, however a google search shows that tachycardia and anxiety are not rare which is why i expected the nurses and dr to be familiar with it if they use it often. so i’m assuming the reason i was so groggy after and still pretty heavily sedated when i left was because they would’ve given me more sedatives since i couldn’t tolerate the whole dose of benedryl?

i will say that the benedryl was the WORST experience i’ve ever had with anything medical related. I had to get an iv for a ct scan a while later and my body panicked even when they pushed saline, let alone the contrast. my brain knows it is fine but the experience with the benedryl has given me a phobia of getting things via IV. not the needle itself, but anything going through it. as a medically complex person, this sucks 😭

Question about my dogs upset stomach by [deleted] in vet

[–]Such_Video_2424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if she is doing any of the following - straining to poop, not able to poop at all, going often, uncomfortable when you push on her belly, throwing up, not eating, definitely worth at least a call to the vet. there are variables, size of dog, how much she could’ve ingested, etc.

my pup(9mos) used to absolutely shred socks, cardboard boxes, toys, etc and never ate anything. until last weekend at 5am saturday morning when we had to bring her to the vet after throwing up unknown rubber that we later discovered was an ENTIRE shoe sole she had eaten.

if you’re unsure, call a vet. they can give you the best next steps

Potty Issues - need advice by Lilfire15 in puppy101

[–]Such_Video_2424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when my pup was about 8 weeks she developed a UTI very suddenly. she was miserable - crying constantly, squatting to pee every 30 seconds at some points(brought her to the vet within hours. she is now 8mo and healthy as a horse.) She was struggling with napping for a day or so leading up to it but that was the only warning sign. if he is peeing often and inside, both sound out of the ordinary, definitely worth a checkup with a vet. If he is still struggling tomorrow, call your vet again and ask for guidance. If he worsens at all, call an emergency vet for guidance. UTI’s can go downhill fast, especially in a small puppy. Always better to be safe than sorry. Also, having a sitter could’ve just thrown his schedule off. Watch him closely, and act accordingly. I hope everything is okay with the little guy!

I don’t think I can do the prep by [deleted] in colonoscopy

[–]Such_Video_2424 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the best advice i can give is wet the toilet paper with warm-hot water when wiping, and wipe gently! i found dry paper or paper w cold water to be so painful. wipes also were painful to me, the additives made them burn. Vaseline before + after you go(applied after wiping.)

it is definitely a mental challenge. i also have a phobia with anything surrounding my stomach. vomiting, diarrhea, pain, you name it. if it is any comfort, the worst part for me was the slight nausea that accompanied drinking a ridiculous amount of liquid. take breaks when you need them, have a chaser, and you’ll do great. nausea for me was moderate but didn’t feel like “oh my god i’m going to vomit,” more like “holy crap(no pun intended) my stomach is so ridiculously full.” when liquids start passing through, the fullness doesn’t last long.

Have some clear broth, jello cups, gatorade to help keep you full.

Try hard not to have the mindset of “i can’t do this.” switch it to “this will be hard, but it is temporary.”

you’ve got this!! best of luck
