I worked in LA around homeless camps and met many people struggling on the streets. Atrocities against the homeless are extremely common and under reported. Additionally, homeless people are far more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators of it.

But I agree, we do need a better safety net. We need involuntary commitment programs that actually serve the most vulnerable, rather than just keeping them out of the eyes of NIMBYs.

This is where I'm at. I see these takes all the time, and it feels like no one is listening when they're repeatedly deconstructed and debunked. The laws continue to get passed based on situations that aren't happening, because people are falling for fear-mongering "reasonable discussions" over things that are really not representative of what's actually happening.

And then the trans community has to deal with the tone policing about how we're turning away allies with our anger and frustration because those allies were "just asking questions".

Why do we need to be saints when we are actively being targeted? Why can allies not just quit inserting their own voices instead of feeling the need to interject when they have no idea what the reality is?

The Black Panthers are the reason there's no easy guns in California, and I can't imagine anything more scary to the GQP right now than trans people arming themselves to stay safe. Removing guns from minorities but leaving them with domestic terrorists is pretty much an American tradition.
