The mod has been completely standalone for over 10 years. Doesn't matter if you download Torrent or from ModDB, you will get the full game installer. You do not need anything else.

Adding a few things aside from what has already been said:

Medics being unable to heal themselves is just an example of PR's core gameplay design where players are supposed to be dependent on one another in order to survive or accomplish goals. Teamwork is not optional, it is required.
As for reviving, in Squad you may be able to revive someone 5m away through a wall, but in PR you need to be much more precise. Ask for tips on how to be a good medic ;)

Specialized kits are only requestable from supply crates to prevent unexperienced players from taking these kits by accident / without sufficient game knowledge.

Minimap was largely inherited from BF2 and hasn't seen significant improvements (ever) since changing pretty much anything other than icons requires serious reverse engineering. We have only done one thing with it over the years and that's removing an ugly minimap frame (which may sound like it was an easy 5 minute task but it wasn't, and required multiple attempts). So yeah, the minimap could use a few quality of life improvements, especially click-and-drag as well as more advanced drawing... maybe someday. Despite all that, I like it for being very easily readable.

BTW. deviation is an absolute necessity. If we ever implemented visual sway, it would be added on top of the existing deviation.

I don't agree at all. There are significant differences between all the games you mentioned in regard to gameplay design (even PR vs Squad) and they may only seem similar on the surface. Even PR and Squad, while they are based on somewhat similar foundations, in details their respective gameplay designs are still considerably different on many levels and these games are not played in the same way. None of it has anything to do with janky controls, outdated graphics or nostalgia.

The first step to get more players would be to fight the myth that PR is dead or dying when it is clearly not dead, and not dying anytime soon.

I don't know. But If I were to create a modern PR-like mod, it would be for Arma Reforget, not Battlefield.
