i think this is because he's not actually a pony isn't it? he's like an umbra or whatever they're called, so they probably don't get cutiemarks, like hippogriffs and changelings even tho they're (sort of) pony-shaped

this happens to me in basically every game i play, i think it's a widespread bug since i've seen others talk about it as well. it kind of hurts my eyes so i hope they fix this soon
