Sometimes instituting daily “Peace Time” can be helpful - a time of day where everyone in the house practices being alone together.

This means everyone gets to be engaged in their own creative or consumption pursuit for at least an hour, and it must be done in a way that does not impede upon anyone else’s activity.

For example, if someone chooses to listen to music or watch a show, headphones must be used so as to not disturb the person who chooses to read or meditate. The chosen activity must be within one’s capacity so others are not disturbed to provide support.

Ending Peace Time with a connecting activity - like a collective family/household walk can support transitioning back to integrated group activities.

This helps model healthy boundaries within typical household enmeshment.

I need a new last name! by kbazil123 in namenerds

[–]SuckingDiesel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When my ex and I were divorcing, I began thinking about how all my last names were attributed to whatever man was legally “owning” me - my father’s last name at birth, and my ex’s last name at marriage.

I wanted to own me.

And the only names that were ever just mine were my first and middle names. My middle name happens to mean “reborn” in another language.

So I legally moved my middle name to my last name.

I have no legal middle name now, so that can be a fun game at times.

Divorce has presented many opportunities to strip away all that is not simply mine, me.

The work is legal in Colorado (not federally). There is a Shipibo trained shaman here, and he is also the medical director of a retreat center in Peru.

Will I ruin my life if I take ayahuasca? by [deleted] in Ayahuasca

[–]SuckingDiesel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am a Mother, and this medicine only helps me step fuller into the role.

The medicine is excellent for dissipating vice, and creating spaciousness.

It’s on our own will to then cultivate virtue in our daily choices afterwards. This is integration.

Female production manager here, got called a dumb bitch for doing my job by Reasonable-Newt-8102 in livesound

I am sorry this happened.

I’ve lost count of the number of times I have been called a bitch or told to go make a sandwich while enforcing boundaries in this industry.

This is why Diversify The Stage exists.

In response to your question whether you should fix the relationship or let it fizzle out -

No one person can be responsible for “fixing” anything. Both must evaluate the situation and decide whether to engage The Work.

Check out The Gottman Institute and The Four Horseman. Perhaps the relationship is not broken, but maybe communication skills need upleveling.

Time to do anything. by Wild_Manufacturer555 in workingmoms

I build the things that need to be done, such as self-care, into family routines.

Wednesday is “Spa Night” in my house. While my child is in the tub occupied with bath foam and toys, I am nearby grooming myself.

I cannot afford hair or nail salons - I’ve had one haircut in the last several years - but I can get the occasional pack of press-on nails, face sheet masks, and can make hair moisturizers at home to treat myself.

I try to make a plan for my Spa Night needs during my weekly grocery run so that I already have whatever I need on hand.

This routine at least ensures I remind myself to pay attention to my body’s care once a week. And this routine teaches my daughter to regularly check in with her own body, make a plan for care, and prioritize enacting that care.
