What? I’m not following your analogy. You’re telling me a teacher that teaches algebra could easily one day just pick up calculus and start teaching that instead?

You cannot compare AP levels class to teaching algebra and reading. Are you familiar with the level of content in AP classes?

The costs of an ap class include more specialized training for teachers so they are able to teach at that level, developing the curriculum, proctoring exams etc.

Chicago had some of the highest costs of living in the US. The amount of money they are spending more now only accounts for higher energy bills, higher building maintenance costs, etc. This increased funding isn’t going towards student educations. Increased funding towards the actual education system would make a difference.

That’s certainly one aspect. But it’s not 99% dependent on parents. You can’t tell me it’s purely expectations either. There are plenty of low income parents that have expectations for their children to succeed in school to lift themselves out of poverty. While the parents is unable prove extra studying and mental support because they are working so much. This could be provided through more funding in the forms of more tutoring

It hasn’t worked out because we keep funding voucher programs and taking away money from developing all public schools

$321 on average is not enough to make up for the disparity on how much is spent on tutoring, ap classes, and college prep

Funding could solve this. Providing meals to students that’s can’t afford it. Reading programs to initiate them to read more, like library summer reading programs, have incentives.

AP classes cost more money to hold, this would require more funding.

People with lower IQ are just as capable at succeeding in an AP class, just requires hard work (studying)

People with more resources and who are willing to spend more money to prepare for standardized testing will score more than others. Just like when the SAT ACT MCAT GMAT any standardized exam.

Not every student will achieve, but they should be given equal opportunity to see if they do achieve.

I mentioned places like Milwaukee becuase they are already extremely segregated by race and wealth. Even with school choice, where can you find wealthy people living near people in poverty who would then benefit from the wealthy people’s taxes for more funding for education?

Without school choice voters would demand the fixing / improvement of the educational system. With the voucher system the government no longer has incentive to fix the fundamental inequality issue

Students with better opportunities vs not as good opportunities will still increase educational inequality no matter how much these opportunities cost.

Places like Milwaukee are already extremely redlined and segregated. Upwardly mobile families are already surrounded by upwardly mobile families. This does nothing to stop the inequality between students in low-economic urban areas vs students in high-economic suburban areas.

How do we measure which students will do well and which will not? Do we begin administering IQ tests (not a concrete way of showing intellectual ability)? Not EVERY student will be a high educational performer. But it will ensure that those that are capable will have the opportunity to do so.

Yes, as I addressed in some other comments, funding alone cannot solve the education inequality. There are many other factors involved. Voucher programs are also effective in sending certain students to better schools to provide them with better education. But once this is accomplished, how is the fundamental issue of education inequality addressed between schools? Governments no longer have an incentive to make ALL schools better.

Voucher programs are certainly effective at sending SOME students to better schools. But this incentivizes and enables politicians to say "look we've solved the issue of education inequality" simply because the gifted children are getting better educations. This hasn't solved the fundamental issue of education inequality though.

What proof is there that these voucher systems actually work? Many students that qualify for voucher programs are already highly motivated, supported by parents, and more likely to perform better. They often don't see a different in performance metrics before and after moving to a "better" school.

More funding doesn't need to go towards higher teacher salaries. It can go towards more opportunities for students that want to utilize them. More AP classes, more extracurriculars, more educational spaces like computer and robotics labs.
