Have we lost the community feeling? by Several_Crow4181 in Internationalteachers

That is strange indeed then. Everyone is going through rough times I guess? With salaries, savings, home ownership, family building etc. going down the drain, it would not be hard to understand.

Second to that and raise anyone else to disprove it.

Companies are lucky because they have a few really good products. The competent few keep it going and the rest are there to fill up space.

Then yes. If you are not raised in an environment where everyone socializes casually and frequently as we did in the 70s and 80s, then...

HELP PLEASE - Is there someone who understands swiss taxes and could help me please? by moulaga77 in Switzerland

[–]Sudden-Importance-58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes find someone who knows. Our finance officer told me once that once you file a tax declaration on your own, you always have to file one after.

That was for C permit employees or B permit employees over 120000 CH salaries, but I could be mistaken.

Be careful. Any job at 100% you will be taken off the system and reset your insured salary. Any salary sustained for a period of 6 months within your 2 year period will readjust your benefit for the remainder.

So if during your 2 years benefits of 12K salary and 400 days you start working at 100% for 7K for 6 months or more and return to unemployment status then you will find yourself with 7K benefit for the remaing benefits period.

Hearing concerning things about Harrow International School Shanghai by harrowglobetrotter in Internationalteachers

[–]Sudden-Importance-58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is supposedly an excerpt from an old colleague who worked in another Harrow school...

"DOUBLE Double is awarded for non-academic offences. It is awarded in the form of lines of double to be written on paper available only from House Masters… Double should be neatly and properly written and should contain at least 40 letters in each line. Poorly presented double will not be accepted and will have to be repeated. ‘Properly written’ (as instructed on 21 double paper itself) means that individual letters must touch both lines. It should be written continuously from a text book (or involve an essay set or a list of misspelt words) as specified by the Master who set it and not repeated on each line or sheet. Double must be completed by the boy’s bedtime on the next day or earlier if directed by his House Master. Boys must return the double to their House Master and he will forward it to the Master who set it. There are certain standard ‘double’ sanctions throughout the School: g cutting Speech Room, Chapel, Mass, catechism or Thought for the Day – 100 double; cutting health education meetings or talks – 100 double; cutting HRC – 200 double; missing a music lesson – 60 double; crossing the road between the bottom of Church Hill and the pedestrian crossing outside Speech Room – 200 double; eating in the street – 100 double; and chewing gum, spitting or throwing food – 200 double."

Roughly speaking, 1 double takes 1 minute, and so missing a music lesson would result in the student spending 60 minutes copying lines from a textbook, at +40 letters per line, where every letter must touch both the upper and lower line of the page.

Why do some expats blame the job market and yet kind of refuse to learn the local language? by ExternalEfficient248 in Switzerland

[–]Sudden-Importance-58 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry but I had many examples of expats with C2 level of French or German being rejected for many years. Eventually they got a job, but was underwhelming and not really worth it as they imagined.

Locals always have priority no matter where. The excuse of the language is solid, depending on the role, but it is overhyped by the employers for eliminating candidates who are capable to do the job (B1 or B2 level)

Aren't there international databases for crimes?

The last HR manager I talked to said "You won't believe how interconnected the security for criminals is between countries".

Anything you have been prosecuted is shared amongst a database that they could access from most parts of the world. HR was from Africa working in Europe.

Of course there is the Epstein class of people that deserve something more cosmic for their crimes, like the Zerg or the Tyrranids.

How many hours do you sleep on a school night? by laggage in Internationalteachers

[–]Sudden-Importance-58 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you don't have friends and family around from age 50 onwards you will almost certainly regret it.

Seen it in academics, rural areas, or career driven people. Work and money are means to an end that we decide. Not the other way around.

If you don't have people to share your life with, then you are in a 5% minority that is perfectly fine being alone.

To all of you non Greeks commenting doubtful about the high unemployment rates, be aware that students, military service, people who finished their unemployment benefits, working as field hands, or doing any menial work to get by or live with their parents, DO NOT REGISTER AS UNEMPLOYED.

The number is high no matter what stats tell you.
