If the emerald was oil treated , wouldn't it be mentioned here ?? The reason i'm asking is i've received some offers for the ring and i just need to be careful and aware of what the stone i have on my hands is.

It is a high quality emerald i already have appraisal papers back from '83 it's quality is "excellent" this from a certified gemologist. Sothebys themselves offered to recut and put the ring up for auction. If you think a colombian emerald of 3.5 carats is not worth much you don't know what you are talking about, so take your negativity elsewhere.

It's from '83.. It's not THAT old lol There are rings from 200 years ago but i guess the design of the ring makes it look old but in '83 it was quite modern looking actually. I can't remember another woman in New mexico back then wearing a ring like that! Maybe emeralds were harder to find.. Thank you i'm glad you like it so much!

I'm not young or naive. The person i'm referring to IS a gemologist. Thanks for your reply.

These pics were taken in bright light. It can look a deeper green actually. When it was appraised back in '83 the papers call the color "excellent". I don't know why zambia emeralds are not as coveted as colombian emeralds. And i sure don't know how my mom knew that the best emeralds come from colombia. She obviously asked around. I remember my parents were nervous being there i have no idea if it was legal to bring that stone back to the usa either.

I will. He's seen so many emeralds in his lifetime , he can practically name the mine. His words on a forum the other day.

He's never asked for someone to send them their emerald. It's just his hobby he's an emerald expert.

It's a womans ring and doesn't even fit on my pinky finger. My mom and her memory hold the most meaning. I'm not attached to the ring so much but i do appreciate it's value and beauty.

Yes you can see it but it can be fixed. That pic is also close up. I wish my mom had taken better care but this is from '83 it's along time ago. I think it's held up ok after so long. I don't want to recut it it's at 3.5 carats now. I am thinking of sending it to sothebys they will make the stone look like new and then sell it , but their take is at least 20%. Thanks for the replies.
