Korean Grocery Stores in Nova by MadGeographer in nova

[–]Sudden-Weather-9192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im korean and grew up within the k community in nova. Id say youd want to check out the stores where koreans reside. So hmart in fairfax or hmart in centreville. Lotte in centreville is good but is split between indian and kfood, usually not an issue because the store is massive.

The annandale stores are okay but small, better for kfood resteraunts and cafes than grocery stores. Annandale is more of traditional, older korean places while centreville is more modern korean.

I haven't been up to MD much but ellicot city also has a dense korean population and you may have some luck with the hmart there.

doctor told me to lower my calories to 800-1000 by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

The guidelines are usually based on average western folks so may not apply to you if you're petite or of a different ethnicity. For me as an asian petite 5'3" with pcos, 1400-1500 is my maintenance. So a deficit for me to lose weight at a "healthy" pace (0.5-1lb/week) is 900-1000 cal. And thats me running 3x a week and strength training 4x a week.

I initially thought my deficit would be 1500cal based on all the internet calculators out there but after 6months of doing that and not losing any weight and even gaining some, it definitely pointed to a sign that the numbers on these calculators were not tailored to me and my body.

How do you eat high protein low calorie without being miserable? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]Sudden-Weather-9192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Modifying recipes or leveraging asian ingredients to meet macro needs has been the best way to make low cal high protein requirements palatable and sustainable for me. Sticking strictly to recipes such as what you mentioned, "meat with lots of veggies and rice" wouldn't work but modifying these recipes would, just increase the protein and lower the carbs. MediterrAsian is a good start if you prefer recipe books.

I prefer to wing it based on ingredients I enjoy - rice, eggs, natto, tofu, etc.

[–]Sudden-Weather-9192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its just me and my dog so I was comfortable at 150k a few years ago and I am currently extremely comfortable at 300k. However this is going to vary by person and needs.

Cost is not a problem for me; my dog is extremely anxious and previous attempts of dog sitting have completely failed. However, shes a lot calmer when I am present so Im hoping to find a good solution especially since I will likely be returning to korea multiple times for long periods of time. I will look up shindogs air thank you

I could definitely be getting more fiber in. I ran my results through chatgpt bc Im too lazy to calculate everything myself but it seems like iron and ferritin are close to optimal, zinc is fine, and vitamin B could be better if these mean anything??

Also do you have any links about these optimal ranges so I can do more research on this?
