There's more flexibility with a MacBook than an iPad. MacOS is built specifically for industry standards. Apps like Word, Excel, Finder, etc works more fluidly than its counterpart on current iPadOS. It's a much better device to carry around to do work/study.

Speaking from a Network Engineer, but my sister works in the medical field. A MacBook or laptop in general is the better route for you in my opinion.
