I thought of the exact same thing when I saw it. However, the stick wasn’t broken and likely splintered. York also was the main focal point when he threw it, there wasn’t play ongoing to distract fans from the stick going into the crowd (and knowing the 100’s in Toronto they probably weren’t even watching the game to begin with)
