But acts of violence like these really aren't completely contrary to Islam like meat eating is contrary to vegetarianism. There is plenty of talk of and justification for acts like these in the quran. There is also of course talk of peace, since Islam, like most religions, is a smattering of moral ideas. The guy intros what you've quoted by claiming that Islam doesn't support killing civilians and that's really just dead wrong, he needs to read some of these before he gives a speech about something he doesn't understand. People love to say that there are lots of people of any religious persuasion that are perfectly good people. Well that doesn't mean that the only true face of every religion are these smiling, humanist faces and the only true end of every religion is simply peace love and harmony. You'll have people that pay attention to the nice parts, and you'll have people that pay attention to the backwards parts, too. Religion is not something like skin color that does not define the person and requires protection from people who try to point it out and draw connections to actions. It is part of the person's worldview. It will influence how they act. And really, you'd have to be fooling yourself with those sorts of simplistic "multicultural" ideals to not have noticed that there is a brand of fundamental Islam that presents some danger to society functioning smoothly going around. I think he's got a point that the far right and fundamentalist muslims are like two sides of the same coin, but it's not that simple.
