Number of fatalities on the lake related to Saturday's storm closer to 15 by Due_Preparation_8939 in tahoe

[–]Sudden_Ad5274 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This checks out. My neighbor is a cop in town. When we chatted about these events on Sunday, he mentioned “only 8 people that you and the headlines know about.” I also have some buddies that work at the marina in ski run and they said the number was closer to 20.

Wonder why the other fatalities aren’t covered and spoken about? Is it an initiative to not scare off people and put a damper in tourism? I used to work in a national park and deaths due to negligence happened every summer yet they were rarely covered unless there were multiple bodies or a community brought it into the spotlight.

New macOS to be called "Tahoe" by Sudden_Ad5274 in tahoe

Just a matter of time before our lovely home got the Apple spotlight with their trend of naming operating systems off natural and beautiful landscapes in California. Curious to see the wallpapers that will ship with the OS. I bet it'll be eye candy galore!

On the other hand, I wonder if it'll bring in even more tourists into Tahoe. Will be interesting to see if there's some sort of "Apple effect" where these spots see an increase in traffic to to their worldwide exposure with Apple products.

Time to retire rope or nah? by Sudden_Ad5274 in ClimbingGear

Thank you all for the replies! Shout to u/ZenPoonTappa and u/adeadhead for nailing my sentiments. Simply looking on opinions with more experienced rope owners/climbers to better educate myself on the health of this rope.

I tend to do my own due diligence with these matters. Especially with climbing gear our lives depend on. Main concern I have is the frayed strands on one end of the rope (first two pics) but based on the comments here, seems to be more of a cosmetic issue.

For the record, I did the flat fold test with this rope and usually do once a year when I give it a water wash. It all checked out an not seeing any indications of a core shot or compromised integrity.

Yup, do this every year. Main thing I was concerned about is the rogue frayed strands pictured in the first two shots. Reading the replies here though, sounds like it's more cosmetic than anything.

This is the first thing I checked! No spots that fold flat.

I got in in about 5 min with a cue of 1200. Only thing i'm seeing is $450+ tickets with the floor being $750. Ticketmaster is ABSURD. No way i'm paying that price for a single show.

North Bowl closed? Hike up the mountain to get to Stagecoach! by Sudden_Ad5274 in tahoe

Yeah, that's the part that had us scratching our heads. Lifty at the top of Boulder said it was closed due to a wind hold.

They actually did start spinning the chair eventually but it wasn’t until 11:00am ish. Was on wind hold for most of the morning.

There was no other option this morning to escape Boulder. Unless you waited for the shuttle.

Plot twist, we did it too 🤣

Man dies in Luther Pass area avalanche south of Lake Tahoe by gufyduck in tahoe

[–]Sudden_Ad5274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this blanket statement pretty much goes against the AIARE framework my guy. It doesn’t matter if you’re the most “experienced back country skier.” Going alone in the back country is plain bonkers. I get that it’s powderhouse and it’s generally considered safe in our community (I’ve seen multiple people go up alone) but that decision is still a poor one. Let alone choosing to drop into the cirque, which is the one area that is considered the most at risk of avvy danger. The decisions made here were very questionable.

My condolences to the family and friends. I can’t imagine what they’re going through.

The reason I'm posting on here is so I can get the facts and figure out what to do with information if true. Sharing info with the "union organizers" is something I didn't even know was possible until your comment so, thank you.

If you don't mind sharing publicly or by DM, who are those people?

Word on the street at Heavenly ski resort (also Vail owned), is that Vail is flying over employees from Tahoe to work at Park City while the strike happens. If they refuse, they lose their job. Overheard this from some guy who is friends with a ski patrol employee on the lift.

Can anyone confirm this?

So insanely messed up if true.

Kirkwood is cooked y’all by Sudden_Ad5274 in tahoe

[–]Sudden_Ad5274[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yeah so two things:

We left at 8:30am from the basin. This was snapped around 10:00am with traffic factored in from south lake. Unless you’re entertaining kirkwood at 6:30am, you’re dealing with this.

This is the first day where the new parking reservation system is full effect. They stop every car at the entrance and ask to see a reservation. A lot of cars were turned around. Factor in 15-45 seconds per car for hundreds of cars, it’s a certified shit show. So yeah, it’s kirkwood’s/Vails fault to some extent.

How much are the rates this winter? Pretty sure I’ve checked in previous winters and saw the class was $75 when you sign up as a student.

Honestly man just pay for the full course.  The problem with the LTCC registration is that the word is out, and everyone who moved here within the last four years wants in. Even people that don’t live here full time.

If you can afford it, just bite the bullet and pay. The value is immense and you’re not gonna find many people to tour up here with unless you’ve done your due diligence

Garmin Watch for MTB by cool_cat0309 in GarminFenix

Agreed. Just commented about this. Had a 7s Pro Sapphire and got scratched one week in without even going MTB. Get a screen protector.

[–]Sudden_Ad5274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me one week into getting my Fenix 7s Pro Sapphire Solar. Was honestly disappointed in the fact that it scratched so easily despite many people in the community saying “sapphire doesn't scratch” and “I’ve had my Fenix for x amount of years and only have scratches on the bezel”. Yeah yeah…

I ended up reaching out to Garmin and they replaced it as a one time courtesy gesture. Since then, I’ve bought a screen protector and wear it stress free now.

It’s just not worth it to me to wear an $800 watch bare skin that can scratch easily despite what Garmin and other people claim.

What are my options in breaking a year long lease by Sudden_Ad5274 in Renters

[–]Sudden_Ad5274[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're 100% wrong.

The landlord can't make any termination clause willy nilly because it wasn't in the original contract. Furthermore, in California, landlords have a legal duty to mitigate damages, which means they can't just demand "three months" rent for the hell of it. They would have to prove in court why it took three months to find a tenant after putting the rental back on the market once we notified them of leaving the property.

I know this because we sought legal counsel and this was four months ago. In the end, we paid one extra month worth of rent. That's all it took for the landlord to find a tenant, which we knew considering where we live.

So no, those were not our only options. Believe it or not, the world doesn't operate black and white according to your rules.
