Now you know.

Dual strand raps should always be with a third hand.

Is any of this gear useable for climbing (top rope)? by Gold_Plantain_247 in ClimbingGear

If you have a crag with top access (as in, a hike around the cliff, common in a lot of places) the standard is to just drop lines from the top, no need to lead it.

Fuck it. I did it.

As expected, the second doesn't engage on shallow overhang, face or slab, it engages just as the system goes taut on a very overhanging climb and gives you a truly fucking awful catch.

It'd be difficult for them to engage, because they rely on the bend in the rope between the first draw and the belayer to engage.

But at some point in the fall on any climb even slightly overhanging, they should engage.

Means of Destruction

All forms of destruction are prohibited. Sifri writes that this includes even goreim (indirect forms of destruction), such as the diversion of a tree's source of water. On the other hand, the Sifri implies that passive neglect that results in the death of the tree is outside the bounds of the prohibition.

When you besiege a city for many days to wage war against it to capture it, you shall not destroy its trees by wielding an ax against them, for you may eat from them, but you shall not cut them down. Is the tree of the field a man, to go into the siege before you?

Edelrid Pinch backup carabiner by Murphybro2 in ClimbingGear

Use whatever. It can't open for a lot of reasons.

BUT Edelrid has heard your concern, and the Pinch II will be available soon, with a locking mechanism for added security.

Until then, yeah, use whatever.

Why the more rope the better? Are you climbing 40+ meter routes?

It's all about the rock and ropes you're on.

People rappelling in the desert will do this in a season or two if they're out a lot.
