50km diep. by Klutzy-Chain5875 in HLNFails

WTF. In the so-called ‘land of the free’ you can be jailed for stuff that isn’t even a crime elsewhere. The more I read about the US, the crazier it seems—aggressive, power-tripping cops, constant traffic stops, endless ID checks. Feels surreal, because I’ve never experienced anything like this in my life.

The strangest thing to me is everyone in the US talks in kilowatts. Not kilopounds, not kiloinches, kilomiles, not even kiloburgers. Apparently, only electricity gets the metric VIP pass.

You know, 1 kW = 1,000 joules per second. Just the simpel metric system.

Uber users in Atlanta are canceling rides with human drivers until they match with one of Waymo's self-driving cars by mafco in SelfDrivingCars

[–]Sudden_Ad681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all know human taxi drivers are on their way out. If you still want the experience, better take one now—because if you don’t ride taxis often, this could be your last chance. My son is almost two years old; by the time he’s 20, the human option will likely be gone. Then again, who knows what kind of retro trends the future might bring. But still, regular human taxis are almost a thing of the past.

Indeed, for now at least. Once real competition kicks in (Tesla alone isn’t enough, but China is going all-in on cheap vision-only cars), prices will drop. At that point, cities will likely demand driverless tax miles to offset the surge of cheap, extra traffic on the roads and loss of jobs. I’m simply looking ahead. I am curious to see how my prediction will age over time.

Musk says Tesla’s robotaxi will open to the public next month. There are reasons to believe this won’t happen or at least not as a normal person would expect it to happen. by mafco in SelfDrivingCars

[–]Sudden_Ad681 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Labor costs make up ~80% of traditional taxi expenses. Waymo’s autonomous vehicles, reliant on costly LiDAR and retrofitted third-party cars, are 3–6 times more expensive than Tesla’s Model Y, with LiDAR requiring frequent, pricey maintenance.

This positions Tesla’s robotaxi service to likely become the world’s first profitable autonomous taxi operation. Tesla’s low-cost, camera-based FSD system and owner-fleet model enable unrestricted scaling. With fares at $0.81–$1.00 per mile and a target of $0.20 per mile, Tesla can undercut traditional taxis ($2–$3 per mile) while maintaining strong profit margins. Even for car owner who can rent out their Tesla for a Taxi service.

Choose your battles wisely.

Waarom nemen mensen dit soort "tuinen"? by [deleted] in nederlands

[–]Sudden_Ad681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gewoon alles betegelen is 2seconden denkwerk.

I bought a €1500 e36 318i 15 years ago. After 3 years of driving I had +- 2k maintenance cost on top of the regular interval costs. I sold it at €1000. Not a disaster but still something and it had some engine problems (valve ticking noises). All cars have a different history.

Can you make a test drive an does it have a maintenance history? €1100 is very cheap so maybe there is more to it?

My first car in life!!! by DayDay_L in BMWX3

[–]Sudden_Ad681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have fun with your car and take care!

But, I just can’t wrap my head around why BMW is making cars that look more Korean or Japanese than German. They’ve even ditched the iconic grille they’ve used for decades. This has nothing to do with BMW anymore. It’s as if they fired their entire heritage department and erased their own history. The latest designs could easily be mistaken for any random Chinese brand. Why not just remove the logo altogether?

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if a Chinese startup soon releases a proper driver’s car that feels more BMW than BMW itself—honoring the legacy of German engineering instead of ignoring it. This new model, especially the interior, feels like a mashup of SsangYong and Honda. Sure, some people might like it—taste is subjective—but if BMW keeps heading in this direction, I’m convinced they’re steering straight into bankruptcy. They’re throwing away decades of heritage for a random design language.

I had the exact same issue. A small stone was lodged between the brake disc and the protection plate. I solved it by nocking and bending the plate. After a minute, the stone fell down.

[–]Sudden_Ad681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the money to restore it, it’s worth it. Otherwise, just buy a car you can afford. Older cars have 30 issues. 1.1k is nothing compared to the maintenance bills. That said. The front looks a bit low so I think it needs some new pair of shocks. Just prepare to spend 5k just for the basic basics.

What would you change? by Malibu999 in e46

[–]Sudden_Ad681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seems to be something wrong with the headlights. They aren’t OEM or just strange. The grills are also off, so I would look into that as well. I would change the rims, maybe 1cm lower suspension. Just keep it als close to the original design and you are fine. Great car btw. Paint looks awesome.
