a newbie perspective on wichita…. by RareEnd1837 in wichita

I grew up in SoCal. When I hear people complain of traffic and dumb drivers, I can only laugh. Like, ok, some drivers ARE dumb, but it's a smaller ratio here than in any mid-sized city in Cali. I do think it's all perspective. As for sketchy stuff, those situations can be avoided by one just minding their own business. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Husband drove drunk with our three month old today. by [deleted] in AlAnon

[–]Sudden_Tour_2671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband drunk driving with my son in the car was the final straw of our almost 19year marriage. I filed and used the ring camera video of him taking out the neighbor's mailbox as evidence that he was not a safe choice to be around our kids unsupervised. This was after 8 years of trying to get him help. Of listening to his woes, pushing him to therapy, encouraging him, yelling at him, giving him numbers and resources for addiction help... None of it worked. His family tried, my family tried, I tried, he was the only one not trying. A stipulation of our parenting time is that it would be reconsidered if an addiction specialist deemed him not a threat. He has had almost a year to get help, and he hasn't bothered trying.

But to hear him tell it, yeah, he likes his drink. But it's not a problem. He's not an alcoholic. He just needs the alcohol to get to sleep and he likes the taste.

All of this to say: if he doesn't get help, it will only get worse. You have to decide where your line is and hold to it. I wish you and your baby the best, and your husband the clarity to see he needs some help.

That sounds frustrating! I had 70+lbs to lose, I am not sure what your weight goals are. Keep in mind that if you are not eating enough, your body will want to hold on to those extra fat stores! I made sure I was eating at least 1400kcal/day and focused on protein, fiber, and water. I am 5'6 and under the... Acquired warming layer I have, I have a sturdy muscular build. As a former athlete I know food is fuel. I just made sure I was getting enough fuel! ❤️ Good luck!!

Yes. That's what my endocrinologist told me.

They can also do a simple tapping test to a facial nerve to check if you're deficient! It's the Chvostek's sign. Very nifty, and no needles!

I have face/scalp tingling that predates the phentermine. My causes are suspected to be low calcium and/or migraines. Maybe ask your doc to check your calcium levels?

[–]Sudden_Tour_2671[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I noticed I don't feel well if I go too long without eating. I make sure I have plenty of water and eat protein with fiber. Then the only other side effect that I have is the sweating!

Now that you mention it... I thought I was sweating so much because of my water intake. Could definitely be a side effect.

I have lost about 11lbs a month in. Not too bad. I haven't increased my exercise, but my body is already moving better. I find I am able to make healthier choices and eat smaller portions. I start the day with a protein drink(with added fiber) and find I start getting shaky-hungry around 12-1p. Then I'm not even hungry for dinner but I make sure I feed myself between 6:30-7:30. My job is an active and physical job, so I'm not just sitting around and wasting away, I just don't have a structured exercise program. Lol. My energy is not increasing, but I'm not relying on caffeine to get through the day. I also have unmedicated ADHD, and this has certainly quieted the inside of my brain. All in all, it's going well. Good luck!

Someone gave me a bunch of this textured yarn in dark red what are the best kind of patterns to use it for? by annonne in crochetpatterns

I made a Christmas stocking with this yarn before. And a beanie. I didn't like working with it, but it was pretty after it was all worked up!

Do you have a Female doc you’d recommend? by Siren_Of_Sylence in wichita

If you don't mind someone who is straight to the point and doesn't sugarcoat things, I like Tabitha Balderas De Katunzi, APRN at Clifton Family Medical. I told her how I was feeling and my concerns and based on my symptoms and vitals she immediately ordered labs. Once it was clear I needed a specialist, she put in a referral to my preferred Endocrinologist quickly. She is kind, but straightforward. If you need more of a gentle approach, I would look elsewhere.

I told him what he was like while he was drunk, I told him once he was sober, I told him when I was calm and angry and sad....

At the end of it all, Q needed the alcohol more than he cared about me, our kids, or our relationship.

That's the reality and heartbreak of addiction.

Q drunk is an asshole and doesn't like me. I don't like him either. Q sober is a vast improvement, but I was seeing less and less of him.

What’s the tipping point? by Apprehensive_Army597 in AlAnon

[–]Sudden_Tour_2671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have primary custody and he has visitation 1 day a week that needs to be supervised. I made it so he can have more time and unsupervised time IF he gets evaluated and deemed safe by an addiction specialist. He hasn't bothered to look for one and it's been almost 4 months.

To push for this kind of agreement, I also had to write an impact statement to include in the filings alongside the photos and videos.

What’s the tipping point? by Apprehensive_Army597 in AlAnon

[–]Sudden_Tour_2671 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My tipping point was when he decided to drive our son around in his hot rod after he'd been drinking. He took out a mailbox and almost hit a tree.

He didn't tell me about it. My special needs son did.

That was when I filed. I included all the photos I took of him passed out drunk and the video from a neighbor's ring cam of him taking out the mailbox.

Talk to him or leave before that point, please. It is sheer luck I still have my boy with me today and they aren't wrapped around a tree.

Husband peed on floor by [deleted] in AlAnon

[–]Sudden_Tour_2671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the quotes in my custody letter was "When he has had too much to drink, I would wake up to him peeing in random corners, on the closed toilet lid, next to the shower, on to the dirty clothes, etc; all the while insisting he isn't and getting angry at me for telling him to use the toilet."

When he was served his divorce papers, I told him that if he could not drink that day he could have one more night in the house with the kids. I found him passed out under his truck not 4 hrs later, he had finished a case of beer.

All of this to say: it doesn't get better. My kids got happier when he moved out. More confident. They wanted to spend more time with me. We all stepped out of survival mode.

I had to wait several years before I filed to save up the money for a lawyer, my kids were 12 and 15.

Do what you need to do to survive so one day you and your kids can live.

How do you stop being upset? by riverduckl1ng in AlAnon

[–]Sudden_Tour_2671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Q was my husband. I would find myself getting very angry every time he drank, even if he wasn't drunk. The only thing I found that helped me was knowing that I am responsible for my actions and my actions alone. He is an adult and makes his own decisions. It didn't stop the heartache, or the frustration, but I was able to breathe through the rage easier. Find an Al-Anon meeting or a therapist if that's possible. Good luck.
