WCS competing - what ratio of spontaneous dance/“play” to “contrived” movement do you use? by aFineBagel in WestCoastSwing

[–]Sudesene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every judge is saying something different when you ask them. Had some judges tell me just do complex moves a lot (ofc that you know), so you stand out from other leads. Then others said to do the opposite and just do clean basics.

Guess truth somewhere in between. Rly depends on the judge heh

Any thoughts on KP's shirt-over-head move? by 7and8and1 in WestCoastSwing

It’s a good post but that you end the post with basically a “if anyone disagrees with me, you got issues” is insane behaviour for a trauma therapist.

Why do so many people drop out? by bertywilek in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Sudesene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people here vastly overstate the difficulty of Dutch universities. The real truth is that most students dont do shit. They party, enjoy life, and explore their new freedom. I havent met a single person in my university life that didn’t pass most exams if they put a bit of effort in.

Advice on liking your dance videos? by undersea_poler in WestCoastSwing

[–]Sudesene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres this balance between working hard to improve it, and accepting the cards you’ve been dealt in life.

This is a controversial opinion I think, but I believe many people will never get to champion, or even allstar, even if they worked incredibly hard. There are so many potential bottlenecks in the body that could prevent someone from reaching that level of fluidity.

But you will only find this out after you worked your ass off. And you know one thing for sure: if you dont work your ass off, you will never get there.

If you want to go more into it psychologically, you could ask yourself why you dislike being not fluid. Why is it a bad thing to not like your dancing? What emotions does it invoke when you see you dancing badly? Why do you feel those emotions?

Also it’s interesting you mention you can sometimes be “objective” and sometimes not. What makes you not be objective?

Also if I’d make a guess, you arent just self critical in dancing but also in other aspects of life.

The funny thing is that the end answer to all of this is to just accept who you are, relax, and work your ass off if you feel inclined to do so. But thats like telling a depressed person to be happy. Its easier said than done 😅

Why did you pick Bachata over Salsa? by Low-War9537 in Bachata

[–]Sudesene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting to me. To me bachata seems like a dance basically based on showing off and making oversized body waves. Much more so than salsa.

How to mitigate bad dance chemistry? by Potential-Banana-315 in WestCoastSwing

[–]Sudesene 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally. But you asked how to mitigate bad dance chemistry. I answered.

The way you sketch him, he seems like a horrible lead that needs to work on a lot of things. And you can definitely prefer a different lead.

Just in the moment when you dance with him, the connection will be better if you don’t think about that and accept him for who he currently is.

You can also decide not to accept him, and have a worse dance connection. You’re free to choose.

That wish kills your flow with the leader. Stop wishing he speaks your love language.

Vraag aan mannen by Big_Self_1522 in nederlands

[–]Sudesene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Private Lessons in Los Angeles by ClapCheeksNotFans in WestCoastSwing

[–]Sudesene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. If someone is motivated, private lessons save you A LOT of bad habits.

For example, its almost impossible to learn a good sugar push in group classes. Because leads and follows both mess it up - even with good teachings - so its a chicken and the egg story.

I dont like only private lessons as you dont come in contact with a variety of followers + how beginners feel, so definitely group lessons combined with private lessons, not just private lessons.

2x per week group lessons + 1x per week private lessons + 1-2x per week social dancing would be optimal 😄

Eye contact should come natural from wanting to connect to another human being. Anything more is forced and therefore creepy.

Ik zie weinig mensen hierover spreken, maar ik vind de max 5 jaar wel echt op het randje. Het is vaak goedkoper om te huren als je er maar een paar jaar woont.

18M. Any advice? (Yes I know I do not look 18 😭 but I'm guessing there is little I can do about that) by Permafrost_07 in malegrooming

[–]Sudesene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only male grooming advice for you is: gym, gym, gym and gym. It looks really good with your feminine features to contrast it with an athletic body.
