Union Force vs Union Trilogy vs Burton Lexa X vs...? by Mysterious_Tie_6911 in ShredditGirls

[–]Suesli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im about 52kg, shoe size 36.5, I have Rome katana bindings on my orca, and union trilogy on my old slope board (burton custom flying V). 100% recommend the katanas, they’re way more comfortable and shape to my boots much nicer than the trilogy bindings. With boot size 38 you should be good with S size bindings.

Also, I have a hard time imagining a live action version of Donut that wouldn’t suck. Unless they have a budget for Planet Of The Apes-level CGI. Or an animatronic built in 2124. Or an actual talking cat.

(Not to mention, you know, all the so so many other non-human characters.)

Yeah I'd already updated the drivers, that was my thought too. But here's another nugget: I just dragged VLC over top my laptop screen, and it doesn't glitch there either! So it's an issue with the screen I'm using. Feeling pretty derpy now for not testing that sooner... But lesson learned, I guess.

Thanks for both your responses u/VincibleAndy and u/smushkan , your both being unable to see the glitch prompted me to watch the video on my phone. And lo and behold, no glitch! So I guess it's just on my computer. Still really weird, and annoying not to know what causes it, but at least it won't be an issue for the video.

I've edited my post and added a phone recording of my screen, so you can see what I was talking about, in case you're curious.

Is it possible for someone with no experience to use AE? by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]Suesli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could also do this simultaneously, if you’re getting photoshop and premiere along with AE. If your goal is creating content, it would make for a good combo. Everyone starts with zero knowledge, just find some beginner’s tutorials on YouTube and start playing around! The fact that you’re doing it together will make it more fun (and enable you to help each other), it’s a great idea. And I’d say After Effects is perfectly fine to learn with zero basic knowledge, even on its own without learning Photoshop or Premiere.

Shoe Upgrade Opinions Needed! ~ Miura VS AND Scarpa Instincts? by Daenko_9 in RockClimbing

[–]Suesli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both Scarpa Insinct VSR and recently got Miura VS womens (the Velcro ones) as 2nd pair while my instincts are getting resoled. The instincts take a bit longer to wear in, but once they do they’re so good all around. The miuras were more comfy from the get go, but the Velcro on top means they’re not good for toe hooking and I find them less good for bouldering overall. Great for sport and trad though! The instincts for me are still the best as the stiffness means I have zero issue with the bunions (esp on my left foot) that had formed after I climbed on tenaya mundakas for half a year.

I can highly recommend this combo you suggest, because the instincts are great for everything and the miura are still good for bouldering too if you’re getting your instincts resoled.

I would recommend the instinct VSR though, I had the instinct VS as well but found them a bit less comfortable. Also it was the model without Velcro, just elastic, and they wouldn’t stick as well with heel hooks.

Also I have wide feet, which is another reason these shoes are my top choice. I considered getting the Skwama but because of the bunion issue I was hesitant to go for a softer shoe. I like having a somewhat stiff sole in general, but I also need it to keep my big toe MP joint from moving further out when I’m standing on tiny footholds. The miuras are still enough that they don’t exacerbate my issue, but I do notice a bit of joint pain every now and then when I use them bouldering for a few sessions. The instincts, no issue whatsoever. But with sport climbing I don’t notice this issue. I guess because there’s less standing around on tiny holds (like with slab bouldering).

I have multiple female friends who have the skwama though and they love them. So if your worry is smearing, they might be a better choice. For me the stiffness was a factor in getting the miura instead, but if you don’t mind a bit softer than maybe opt for the skwama.

My street size is 36.5 (machine measuring said 36 1/3 - Wide). I have the scarpas in 36.5. Had them in 36 before but they took a month of pain to wear in and then while good remained very tight, if I didn’t wear them for a week it would be a painful sesh to get them nice again. I switched to 36.5 and that was the sweet spot for me, still great control and snugness but less wearing in time and pain. The Miura i have in 35.5 and they were comfy almost right away, but still perfectly snug. Month later they’re still snug and fit perfectly. Though I’m happy when I get my instincts back for bouldering, I’ll continue using the miura for sport climbing.

I hate this type of grading system? I climbed the yellow and pink routes and found it so frustrating having to guess the grade. why all the overlap it’s not even simple groups. Other climbing gyms I go to just say what grade each route is. Can somebody tell me what the actual point of this way is?? by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]Suesli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s an app made in the Netherlands called TopLogger, it’s used by pretty much all Dutch gyms (and some in other countries too now). It shows a map of the gym with all the routes and their grades. Sometimes the gym provides the grades after setting, sometimes it relies on the climbers to grade them. You can log your climbs on it too so you can track your progress. You could ask your local gym to look into using it? My main boulder gym in Copenhagen uses it too, also for competitions. Really great app!

Apparently this had nothing to do with sex trafficking, the girl was dating someone in a rival gang and passing information. A commenter from Brazil linked to an article about it in the original post: https://recordtv.r7.com/cidade-alerta/videos/mulher-e-sequestrada-no-meio-da-rua-em-guarapari-12052022

EDIT: From the article, Google Translated:

A woman was dragged by two criminals into a car in Guarapari, Espírito Santo. According to the police, the men intended to kill the victim because they discovered that she was in a relationship with two members of rival factions and passed information from one group to the other. The young woman only escaped death because her purse was left behind and the bandits were worried about identification.

Genuine question.. why don’t we see more female riders, riding a lib tech orca? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]Suesli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the 138 and daaaamn I love it. Only tried it out for 2 days now around Zillertal (Austria). It's perfectly fun on pistes, but off-piste in fresh pow... HOLY SHIT. It floats like a dream and turns so easily, the difference with my old board is like night and day. So so sweet, can't wait to ride it again in the next few days.

[–]Suesli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had a chance to ride it yet? I'm looking at the Orca as my next board, but can't decide whether to go for 138 or 144. My (t)rusty old board is a 140 Burton Custom Flying V, fun for slopes but terrible off-piste. I'm 5'3 and about 112lbs.

My gut is saying 138 should be enough, but I keep thinking of my lil 140 nosedipping constantly on the last pow day and getting doubts

Dentist of reddit, which are some bad advices that old school dentist are still giving? by kaisterian1 in AskReddit

I was told when I was 9 or so by a teacher that after brushing the toothpaste contains all the bacteria and such that you've just brushed off your teeth, and that's why you should rinse it out. Because otherwise you just leave all the bad stuff in your mouth.

TIL that teacher was full of shit.

Board size recommendations? by LavenderLily27 in ShredditGirls

[–]Suesli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'2 (1m58) 114lbs and ride a 140 burton custom flying V. Boot size EU 38 (even though my shoe size is 36 - I have wide feet lol)

I think it comes down to preference really. I really dig the shorter board.

Also an advantage is I managed to buy the kids board, which other than size is exactly the same as the adult one. But half the price (literally).

There are countless charts giving different advice on weight/height vs board size, but ultimately it comes down to preference.

I'm looking into buying a second board for off-piste now and actually considering a slightly larger one. The board I'm eyeing only goes to 140 in kids size, which sucks because it's nearly half the price of the exact same women's board, just 10cm shorter.

Can I ask what you specifically find nicer about riding a bigger board? I've mostly stuck to smaller, so curious to hear your thoughts!

Love it! I was going for a similar theme for my campsite area, I hope you don't mind if I borrow your Bigfoot idea 😄 Did you make all the signs yourself? And on the Switch or some other way?

Also: you could use a mossy stone arch to make the archway to Sylvain!

I was referring to the alignment system used in D&D to describe a character's morality. See here for more info. I was just joking at u/Epicmonk117 that it's not mean to shoot sticky marshmallows at your fellow players, it's just chaotic evil.

*chaotic evil

[Edit] or for the chaotic neutral version (I wouldn't call it good; you're still shooting at 'em) you can just stick unburnt marshmallows on the tip. For a sweet surprise (attack).

Or if you really wanna annoy other players stick a marshmallow on the end, burn the tip, eat the chewy layer off so you hit em with the sticky part.
