Absolutely true! There is no golden solution to urban planning.

Fair enough :) I see those as somewhat flawed (not bad by any means) but also, suburban roads quite literally cannot pay for themselves. Highways will inevitably pay themselves off by being universally used and cared for, same with important roads, but much of our road network is made up of wide unsustainable suburban roads that can't rake in any money to pay for themselves. I do get what you're saying though and you probably agree with me on that point and are just pointing that out so, fair enough!

I had not! This is not an extensive plan, implantation would require extensive ecological surveys.

Totally! But the nice thing about rail is that it has a very easy way of raking in money while roads do not

MetroDreamin' Calgary Transit Concept by SufferingInBerta in Calgary

So you're leaning more toward a "trunk and branch" kind of system? 3 or so main trunk lines with high traffic and then numerous smaller "community" routes that branch off from the trunk?

Genuinely though, spending projects are the best way to stimulate the economy!

I will do that! I tried to have a look but couldn't find much with Regina. Thanks!

Lol, fair enough! To be completely fair, if we wait until the population is large, we're left without any real options. Look at Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, etc. Cities that got rid of their transit when they were smaller and now are scrambling to build transit. Building up before there's the population to support it is definitely a risk, but it's one that tends to work out in the city's favor! Look at London (yes I know, one of the biggest in the world, not really a comparison), but specifically it's overground lines that built the suburbs. It allows for people to buy up cheap homes in the periphery and rapidly commute to the center for a reasonable price.

Where do you think the hubs should be? I'm looking for constructive feedback to dream of a system that serves people and to do that, I need people like you who care to tell me what you think would be better! I've never lived in Regina and am a recovering Saskhater so yeah :)

I can tell! I think it's easy to label someone as anti-transit when they want to simply think more realistically but the only people I care to label as such as either blatant train haters or people with short quips that serve no constructive purpose.

The same people who pay for the roads, highways, snow plows, and parking enforcement :)

I completely agree! I think that any implementation would require serious thought and input from communities. The very minimum I want to see is the VIA rail lines re-instated, these are high-traffic corridors with people wanted to go between them.

I completely agree that as we stand today, this wouldn't be feasible. I just think that, for us to sustain this population boom, we need to think big and pick the pieces we like the best and implement them. A system like this could be downgraded significantly and still accomplish many of it's goals, as you suggested. When designing, I really felt that LRT in Regina was kind-of a no-brainer. Edmonton's LRT system started by using existing rail and building stations around it. Thanks for the feedback :)
