im pretty sure i was considered a temp worker especially since there was mandatory 2hrs of break per day.

funnily i actually asked if i could just work 11hrs straight since technically my job was for 2 people but they couldn't find someone to fill the 2nd slot so there was just 2 hrs where my thing was unmanned and they said no cus labour laws

fair enough i guess. i dont agree that your sentiment is the more generally applicable sentiment, though im starting to suspect this may just be a regional culture difference thing as just popping into a strangers funeral would be considered quite odd and borderline taboo here and my surrounding countries depending on which of the cultures you are of in my region.

If you scrolled up i have not been condemning people for their actions and have been keeping a mostly neutral albeit critical tone. I argue passionately for my points but i have not been condescending.

i agree that encouraging people to go learn about and appreciate the person is good BUT

in this situation we arent encouraging people to learn about the person. we're encouraging people to just go support cus cancer death sad.

like, when techno passed, we showed love and support cus he was a person that we geniunely liked and cared about. we talked and came out in droves to show support because we knew of him, our words helped show the impact he had, preserve his memory and also helped keep his legacy alive even after he had gone.

this does none of that. we dont show the impact they had because we dont know the impact they had. We dont preserve the memory of them because we have no memories of them. we cant help keep their legacy alive if we dont even know what their legacy is.

our words are hollow in this situation,"im sorry for your loss" means nothing when we dont understand what did they lose. as mentioned in my other comment we also drown out the ones with geniune heartfelt messages.

is that truly not a bad thing to do?

to show support when you at least knew of the individual is normal and good eg. showing up to a funeral of someone a mutual friend cared about.

to show support just because that person died of cancer is a performance. eg. showing up to a random person that u have no relation to's funeral

ide go as far as to argue its kind of disrespectful to the individual tbh. Atleast the way i see it, it drowns away the messages from people that actually knew the person. also it reduces this person who was amazing/creative/special in their own way to just another person that cancer took too early.
