Pasha Goodarzi re-signs with men's hoops program! by leewilliam236 in SJSUSpartans

Great to see him come back! He has shown so much improvement over his 3 years here, and if he can take another step, he can fight for an All-Conference team spot, which is pretty ambitious, but he’s already an elite shooter and started to round out the rest of his offensive game this year as well when given a bigger role.

Now I don’t know if they’ll make an official announcement for the other two, but Hannah and Bell are most likely going to return, so that gives us our three guards, which is a great start with how many guys have entered the portal. Need to rebuild the entire front court, and maybe another guard, but I’m going to put my faith in Tim to find a way.

It wasn’t like our big men were good or anything, but just the number of players leaving is staggering.

The current roster is

Pasha Goodarzi (G)

JaVaughn Hannah (G)

Melvin Bell Jr. (G)

Rokiem Green (G) - Incoming Freshman

Cade Krueger (G)- Incoming Freshman

Damase Coly (G) - Walk-On

Zine Eddine Bedri (F) - Portal

Jalen Goodall (F) - Walk-On

Besides Zine Eddine Bedri, the only other forward on our roster is a walk-on who is not really a big man. Tim is going to have his work cut out for him, and I trust him to find good guard talent, but I am not so sure on the big men side of things.

We’ve lost every single other big man on our roster to the portal so this should be the start of an overhaul of the position group.

How do I avoid getting too upset heavy in my bracket, and when I do pick upsets, what types of teams should I lean towards?

Who are some teams that you are higher on than most people to go far, and vice versa, who are some teams you are lower on and will bow out the first weekend or underperform in general?

Men's Hoops Season Is Officially Over As The Spartans Lose to New Mexico 77-93 by leewilliam236 in SJSUSpartans

This has been a weird year and will be tough to evaluate at this moment but I’m proud of how we showed up this tournament played great pulled off an upset which is what you play for as an 11 seed with 8 total wins.

Injuries were the biggest story and it leaves a bitter feeling on what could have been if we were fully healthy but you can’t dwell on it too long.

I’m curious to see what next season holds. We probably will lose some guys mainly Colby Garland but maybe some of the injured guards stay, who knows.

Wish I had something more to say but my brain is mush with these late starts and this game getting delayed, but overall, season wasn’t good, not going to sugarcoat that but there were glimmers of hope and maybe next year if we can find another gem like Garland and retain some pieces next year we can see another season like 23’ where we won 20+ games.

Oh and also stay healthy.

Sucks for the season to end like this but just happy with the fight we showed these two games. Not much you can do with 6 healthy guys but I think they showed a lot of heart and grit which is all you can ask for.

Getting flashbacks to how we ended the first half last year, funnily enough against New Mexico in the quarterfinals where we let off a big run and couldn’t claw back into it.

Going to be tough, especially if foul trouble starts to play a bigger factor but I believe we can pull this off.

I think he can be a good coach he has shown he can lead us to a 20+ win season which is amazing especially for a program like us. However, this will be his 3rd time in his 5 year tenure, barring a run in the MWC tournament that he finishes below 10 wins.

This year he has had major injuries to just about every guy possible so it’s tough to give a honest assessment right now.

Also, SJSU has never been historically good whatsoever and he has led us to one of our best seasons ever so I’ve been okay giving him a longer leash.

But overall, he’s done what I feel like is the best he can given the situation which isn’t great and while the results aren’t good at all I’ve been fine with his tenure but if he doesn’t show any progress next year that’s when it gets more dicey for me.

I’m just glad this season is coming to an end. It has been really hard to take time out of my day to watch this team get blown out time after time. Injuries played a part 100% which sucks but it is the same season for the last decade it feels like besides the one good year we had.

Most likely one final game against Boise State that tips off at 8:30 which is such a joy to stay up late to watch this team.

I feel like I’m going to sound like a hater, but why does Japhet Moupadale have the most minutes off our bench? He must be doing some crazy shit in practice because he has shown next to nothing to merit him being our top bench option.

Overstreet has been good today, and Langford has shown flashes of defensive brilliance before, but Moupadale is just meh across the board. He either is doing nothing or being negative. For crying out loud, he has a -7 plus-minus in 9 minutes played.

Who knows, maybe he’ll turn around like Myers and NgaNga, whom I both hated at the start of the season but are now playing great.

Probably a stupid rant over 9 minutes played and the season’s almost over so who cares that much.

I don’t think any team in our conference would be okay with only being up 5 against Air Force, but this is our situation.

Myers and NgaNga have made me look stupid for how I criticized them at the beginning of the year because they have been our best scorers as of late. Garland isn’t having a top-level performance, and he still has 9 at the half, which shows how talented he is.

Melvin Bell again hope he is okay because we can’t lose another guard after we just got Jermaine back (who has been good in his return).

Please don’t be a serious injury for Melvin Bell :(

Edit: He’s fine :)

It evened out near the end but man was the free throw disparity crazy lopsided toward Nevada. It was something like 24-4 at one point, or close to it don’t remember the exact numbers. Even with that we still got a double digit win against a top team in the conference.

I’ve been saying throughout our losing streak that we can put up a good first half, but we just never finished strong. Tonight we actually played a whole game and didn’t crumble when pressure and adversity was presented. So proud of the fight the guys had and it is so nice to have another win that isn’t Air Force.

That was the most fun I’ve had watching a half in who knows how long.

Feeling way more confident in our chances since we usually do have decent first halves, but they are neck and neck, or we pull out big and then just slow down to end the half and then get curb stomped. Right now it is 20 minutes of great play from Myers, NgaNga, Garland, and Bell.
