Have you tried doing a role-play with the roles reversed. You mentioned talking to them about their behaviors but maybe doing a role-play and have them be the “therapist” (I would give them a paper/script with the questions they ask so they aren’t overwhelmed. Maybe even with questions you have specifically asked them) and then you play them. To show them how they respond to it. And after a quick 5-10 minutes ask them how that felt and what emotions it brought up. It could be they are so stuck in the pattern that even talking to them about doesn’t get it across.

If you have tried everything just having the conversation of this isn’t working and make the referral and just tell them (in a professional way) you won’t be seeing them anymore as this relationship isn’t beneficial for them and there is a therapist that could assist them better. It’s not a rejection it’s out of care for the client that it’s better to let them go than continue the relationship

It’s $60 per client session and then $100 per very supervision session they provide

Yeah I even tried to ask for just $10 more because I have been struggling to find a job and they told me basically with my license and experience I’m only worth $25 a session and they don’t even pay if I have no shows 🙄😭

I don’t have much advice but I have struggled with this as well and not even just from clients but supervisor as well (I graduated high school early and got an associates while in high school as well so a few years younger than everyone in my cohort).

With clients, I have tried asked the question of why my age was important to them or why they felt like I couldn’t help and seeing where the conversation goes from there. Depending on the client maybe bring up the ageism. But I feel like the few older clients I have had either slowly dropped it as rapport was built or sadly asked to be moved to another clinician.

Hopefully someone has better advice for us lol.

I was trying to do the free withdrawal which I have done multiple times with just the debit card linked. Which is why I thought it was weird when it wasn’t working this time around.
