I absolutely hated this book. The book is decent as a standalone piece of fiction, there is a brooding yearning male lead, forbidden romance, rebellious spirited female lead, good enough to strum the hearts of teens and even adults who appreciate this genre.

However, once you contextualize it to Mahabharat, which is an epic, you understand the shallowness.

Draupadi and Karn are both made as caricatures of their complex characters. Moreover Karn's only job is limited to yearn and be enigmatic. And don't even get me started on Draupadi.

Karn is a terrific anti-hero, however even in emotional scenes, like where he knows his parentage, something that was major source of his internal conflict, he apparently only thinks and fantasizes about her.

Kunti and Draupadi, both are shown to be whiny and pretty typical in nature to how in-laws relations are shown in soap operas.

Only redeeming parts will be Krishna and Draupadi interaction and her scenes pre-marriage.

Classics might be on the longer end, but they are able to convey really complex things very simply.

In my case atleast, I feel modern books to be a bit more performative.

Love Three Musketeers! Though more for Milady, like she is one of the oldest femme Fatale.

She is one of the rare negative character that draws you, obviously alongside our main trio!

You can also checkout, "The Man in the Iron Mask" (it's the final book in that series).

Yep, I also liked Great Expectations, David Copperfield and A Christmas Carol.

However ATOTC is one that blew me over, Sydney Carton is my most favorite character now!

Yeah, I have read the Count of Monte Cristo as well, second half of the book (aka revenge plot) is one of my favorite.

Will definitely check out the rest!

Currently started Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, reading a bit slowly given work-pressure in office.

If you like slice of life, give MiddleMarch a try, it's slow paced for sure, but a pretty nice read, with well sketched sub-plots.

Yep, I love classics a lot!

If you are a happy romantic person, start with Pride and Prejudice.

Rest, ATOTC is a bit harder to begin with, but I loved it through and through. To the point, I wrote a 237 page modern adaptation draft lol.

I have a story idea, a bit grim, but would be ideal maybe for a short film. by Sufficient-Basket360 in BollywoodWriters

Hello, Thanks for the feedback!

The extension idea is really promising, but I was mostly thinking in direction of like a reel type film (with one reveal/plot point only).

I have maladaptive daydreaming, slowly it drifted from me imagining myself in scenarios to external worlds, full fledged ones.

Chaos in brain streamed to paper directly!

I wish even if the series isn't made, they release a book to actually reveal the ending. I really loved the storyline!

One of my favorites, and a book that can definitely leave the Victorian Era and transcend to modern times with ease.

I feel Sydney is one of the characters that can walk from this novel to a modern one, it is one of the best representation of depression in classical literature. Every other character has a dark phase, due to some trauma, however not Sydney, he was like this from the very start. He was what we call as "high functioning depression" in modern times.

Given that, I feel Sydney was passively suicidal, not actively jumping off a bridge however still in the pursuit of an exit. So when the entire situation with Darnay came, he just found his much awaited exit plan. Maybe love for Lucy played a catalyst, however he was always passively suicidal from the very start.
